Undead mounts in Minecraft already differ from living ones in meaningful ways: they cannot breed, are immune to poison, and are healed by Instant Damage potions instead of food. These traits make them an alternative choice rather than direct replacements.
This suggestion proposes an additional behavioral interaction to reinforce that distinction. Living mounts would feel discomfort around their undead counterparts, causing them to avoid staying nearby, similar to how creepers avoid cats.
Additionally, the presence of an undead mount would increase the breeding cooldown of nearby living mounts from the same family, rather than blocking breeding entirely. For example, while under this effect, breeding could take roughly twice as long, making the impact noticeable without being overly punishing.
A practical example using horses:
obtaining a “good” living horse requires exploration, selective breeding, and separation of multiple horses. In contrast, zombie horses already offer consistent attributes without this process. If a player chooses a zombie horse for convenience or playstyle reasons, they must also deal with its effect on nearby equines, encouraging separate stables for living and undead horses.
The goal is not punishment, but to add weight to player choice, reinforcing undead mounts as a distinct playstyle with clear trade-offs, while keeping the system simple and readable within the current game design.
