Potions are a classic yet often overlooked staple of Minecraft. Over the years, Minecraft has grown a lot, but aside from the occasional patch or texture update, potions have severely lagged behind in terms of mechanics and balancing.
Firstly, potion brewing is a lengthy process that could be optimized. Just as blaze powder has its own sort of “storage,” other general potion brewing ingredients like redstone dust, glowstone dust, netherwart, gunpowder, and dragon’s breath could all have their own “storages” allowing you to select the general ingredients at once to speed up the process, yet keep the recipes the same.
Also, as Minecraft’s PvP has changed a lot over the years, potions have stayed the same. Players burn through many splash potions in a single PvP battle and take up a bunch of inventory space. Also, there is no way to resist or lessen the effects of a splash harming potion during battle. To solve the potion inventory problem, perhaps the player could have a “potion bundle” where they can fit and use 3 splash potions at once in battle rather than dig through their inventory. As for the potion resistance issue, an armor enchantment may be the best and simplest solution to resist/lessen harmful potion effects including but not limited to harming, poison, slowness, and the effects of a strength potion an opponent may use against the player.
These changes would bring potions back to speed with the rest of Minecraft’s growth since their initial release. Thank you <3
