Bejewelled & Bewitched
Minecraft is a game built around physical tools and weapons, but as an rpg it can feel limiting when progression is tied mainly to combat gear. Tridents and maces have added variety, but there still isn’t a clear option for players who want to roleplay as mages.
At the same time, gemstones lack consistency. Woods and Stones have always been consistent and Metals like copper, iron (and hopefully gold soon) are all being polished into a build set. And, while redstone, lapis, emeralds, diamonds are all useful, amethyst and resin are still is so niche that people rarely collect them. Even quartz, which amethyst classifies as irl, is more wanted at times.
A possible solution is a Bejewelled Update:
- Consistent Gemstones - All the gemstones can be used for building with the stonecutter-like block called a Polisher. Polishing gems not only lets you make them into stairs or slabs, but allows you to make hanging decor, clusters, shards, and even glass/glazed terracotta hybrid that make patterns like stained glass.
-
Jewelry - Amulets for the chest and circlets for the head that block one kind of damage per jewel type before cooldown, giving defenses without bulk, supporting a magelike look. Alternatively, each gem makes a different equipment: an eyepiece from amethyst for example.
-
Wands - A new weapon type powered by gemstones. Each gemstone changes the wand’s function, helping with building and locating ores with every use. Echo shards might be useful here as well!
