Petition to Revert Toggle Sneak Change MC-163218

The ability to open containers while remaining crouched has been considered a feature by the community since Toggle Sneak was added back in 1.15. It has remained in the game for nearly 6 years, and in that time has become essential to some play styles. The feature is available to all players, so it's not an unfair advantage.

For instance, the Trapping community, who uses it to remain hidden while building traps underground in PVP scenarios. It's used for really just any PVP scenario where one would have to sneak around. Or even just to remain hidden in your secret base on your friends world.

This change retroactively nerfs this for seemingly no reason, it doesn't positively affect gameplay. Please don't implement this change.

    EVERYONE STAND TOGETHER AND MAKE MOJANG LISTEN, WE'VE DONE IT BEFORE WE CAN DO IT AGAIN, THEY CAN'T JUST KEEP CALLING THINGS LIKE THIS "bugs" AND REMOVING THEM, THESE ARE IMPORTANT FEATURES, SO EVERYONE, STAND STRONG, AND FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHT TO MINE AND CRAFT IN PEACE

    If they get rid of this so many complaints and a lot of trap yourtubers are gonna struggle a lot more realistically they should just make it were u can still sneak while the inventory is open no matter what settings so everyone would automatically have it on.

    Ive always liked playing hide and seek with friends, but now if were trying to play in a small space and I need to tab out while hiding, the whole round is going to just end because ill stop sneaking.

    If Mojang isn't going to revert this change, they at least need to make it so usernames are hidden behind a layer of blocks more than (this is just an example, if this were to be added it should be tweaked) maybe 8 or 16 blocks or something like that.

    Also, for players playing survival in the new snapshot, who didnt see this change, they might be exploring a nether fortress, or building to the end ship or something, and they look in their inventory, and then suddenly because of another bug they fall into the lava (or void) if they were on the edge of the block. Its just so crazy that Mojang would change a bug that benefits most, if not all players, that they left in the game for nearly 10 years now.

    This is not a bug its a feature. If the community is using it so widely as we have it seems so petty to change it just for the sake of it. Who is it hurting? I recently used it today when building with magma to avoid taking damage while in my inventory. I love this game but it really feels like recently Mojang has only been patching bugs which were integral to my play style. Please Mojang in future research how the players are using a “bug” before needlessly patching it.

    While we're at it might aswell make it so if you where holding sneak and you open your inventory you stay sneaking. I hate haveing to turn toggle sneak on whenever I want to open my inventory with being seen.

    I use this feature a lot when i get jumped by people in our server this is not a bug it is like the trapdoor thing it should be a feature pls revert this mojang

    This takes away the fun players have when surprising their friends with traps or stylish underground secret bases which have been a huge part of the gameplay experience since its release. Revert it. It’s not something that needs to be fixed.

    This should be reverted cuz nametags are a dead give away for hidden bases and not everyone enjoys their base exposed

    I think the best way to get the best of both worlds is to keep this change, but additionally add a "Sneak in inventory" option to the Controls menu. Enabling this toggle would preserve crouching status when a GUI is opened, even if toggle sneak is off.

    This covers all four cases, even including people that don't use toggle sneak but want this crouching in inventory behavior.
