With the addition of the Potion of Infestation comes Allay/Armadillo EXP farms. Let's be real—Minecraft is not a game about grinding for EXP to acquire the greatest gear to defeat the toughest foe.
The PvE aspect of Minecraft is limited and will always be overshadowed by games like Terraria. What truly makes Minecraft shine—and keeps players engaged for so long—are the personal projects. Completing a massive build or tackling a long-term goal brings a deep sense of accomplishment. The process brings joy; the outcome gives it meaning.
Remove the process, and you remove the satisfaction that comes with it.
In the past, if you needed cyan blocks for your build or an efficient overworld EXP farm, you'd clear an ocean monument and turn it into a farm. That kind of project took hours—but that was the game. That was the experience. Now, you can just find a Trial Chamber, tear it apart, and you’ve got your cyan blocks. You can also throw together a fast Armadillo/Allay EXP farm in under an hour.
The problem is that the time investment for bigger projects no longer feels justified when these easy alternatives exist.
The downside? Introducing these “easy alternatives” comes at the cost of removing meaningful content and reducing the number of “things to do” for players.
I love the idea introduced by the villager rebalancing update, and I hope to see similar changes in other areas where recent updates have added “easy alternatives.” At the top of that list: Armadillo and Allay EXP farms.
