This is more about the phenomenon of directionality in regard to full blocks. Lately we have seen more blocks that are able to be placed in specific orientations, and their utility is immediately obvious to the clever builder. Like the Stone Cutter, Loom or the Barrel.
I am asking the team to consider this and keep it in mind when devising new content (and revisiting old), as a general rule or intentional design philosophy. And to also maybe take it a step further and allow certain blocks to be rotatable on 3 axis's. Complete control over its orientation.
A new block could potentially have up to 4 or more unique textures (6 maximum) players could choose from when building, which means more opportunities in a smaller footprint. Especially if its rotatable on all 3 axis's. Using this to a players advantage is highly desirable.
There are many current blocks that would benefit from this. For example, the top texture of the Blast Furnace would be indispensable for industrial builds as a wall (and making them discreet in builds). Wood Planks could be vertical.
It's consistent, intuitive and it lets players use what they have in creative and clever ways, as effective substitutes and subtle details that are otherwise unavailable. If you could lay it on its side, rotate it or place it upside down in real life its not much of a reach to do it in a game.
