Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

No more floating trees from fires and better looking Lava pools

Here is my take on this:

Every tree log has a chance to turn into a Charred Log, otherwise it drops an Ash Layer. If the latter, the logs above it, if on fire, will drop Ash Layers only. Ones below a Charred Log will always be charred or untouched. This will prevent floating columns from forming, as the tree will either be completely gone or a stump/pole occasionally topped with Ash Layers, which fall down onto logs that have charred or are untouched. Planks turn into either Ash Layers or simply disappear.

This would make an otherwise catastrophic fire caused by a lava pool or lightning strike more immersive, leaving behind burned stumps and pillars, Ash falling to the ground as a building burns down. Fires can be put out with Bottles of Water, allowing for firefighting.

You can break a burnt log with your fist for a chance to get 1 charcoal, or use an Axe for a 100% chance or the Fortune enchant to get slightly more. Charred Logs = 1 Charcoal in a Furnace, as fuel. A little more "lossy" and more involved, it encourages players to use better fuel sources more often. This introduces fuel strategy in early game, and might incentivize more mining.

You can craft a burnt log with x Charcoal and x Piles of Ash. Burning a Log in a Furnace will net you a Charred Log every time, burning a Charred Log in a Furnace will net you an Ash block every time.

Ash blocks work like Snow blocks, an Ash Layer which breaks into a Pile of Ash, 9 of which combine into an Ash Block (a gravity block).

Charred Logs are the same texture no matter the Log type (stripped, with bark), unless Jappa is feeling up to making two textures -- I wont complain lol.

The introduction of Ash leaves a lot of opportunities open for the Devs to make interesting recipes, or even changing the recipe for rockets or TNT.

This suggestion alone will take care of people wanting a Charcoal storage block (though in my version it wouldn't be a storage block per se as they wont drop the amount of charcoal it takes to craft a Charred Log. It is meant to be a grindy early game fuel and torch source, and an aesthetic things for builders and mapmakers.), Ash/Ash Layers, and better Fire mechanics, as well as adds new mechanics like using water bottles to put out fires. It is perfect and feature complete, and completely solves the issue of random accidental fires by incorporating them as a feature with an interesting aftermath instead of huge missing sections of forest and floating logs and leaves.

Another interesting spin on this: burning a Charred Log can result, randomly, in the smelting time terminating abruptly and leaving a Pile of Ash in the output, requiring removal if not hooked up to a hopper, making it a more involved and chore like process of using this cheap fuel source for smelting and encouraging using Coal or regular Charcoal instead.
