Recently, I've been thinking a lot about the three dimensions. The Overworld has height based content, with different features appearing depending on your y-coordinate. The End has concentric content, different features appearing the further you go from 0,0 (to expand on this: https://feedback.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/community/posts/360061318251-The-Outlands-of-the-End )
The Nether, however, is much more chaotic. The only content constrained by location are lava oceans and Nether Fortresses. This is great, as it makes the Nether unique when compared to the other dimensions. However, I think it could be expanded upon further. Imagine if the Nether could generate any content anywhere, taking advantage of the new local water level feature to have height-differentiated lava oceans with Nether Fortresses being found on top. Ancient Debris would pick a random y-height to generate most commonly at (perhaps this could be tied to seeds) and then have a proportional falloff from there. Sideways biomes could be a cool feature resulting from this as well.
There have been many suggestions recently involving cubic chunks. This post isn't necessarily asking for it, but, if something similar was ever implemented, the Nether would benefit from it most, with players being able to explore infinitely upwards and downwards instead of just side-to-side.
Personally, I think this sort of tweak would greatly benefit the Nether, making it more unique and emphasising its chaotic aspect.
Thanks for reading.
