I get that everything shouldn’t be able to be automated, and I get that everything shouldn’t be easy to get. I agree with both of these sentiments, as they ensure the game doesn’t get too boring/run out of goals. However, every time I find myself in need of dirt, I hit a wall. I never have enough for any significant project, and I never want to collect more. However! This isn’t because it’s too difficult. Dirt is obviously easy to collect, just grab a shovel and go to town. The reason I never want to collect dirt is because I hate destroying the natural terrain of the game. Even if it’s tens of thousands of blocks from my home and I never have to look at it- it doesn’t feel right to desecrate the naturally generated land. This is, though, unfortunately the only way to get dirt. I would be much happier with this aspect of the game if it were renewable/craftable somehow, say maybe as an additional output of the composter, as that would be the closest real-life parallel that already exists within the game. It would make me (and many others I’ve spoken to) very happy to have a way to collect/gather natural resources without having to permanently scar the world around us, leaving it’s beauty to be appreciated by everyone for the rest of time.
