Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

This would add a bit more excitement to mining. you could never know what kind of fossil you might find! This would be great if it was sort of a collectible item. It should have about the same spawn rate of netherite but it wouldn't spawn in veins. They could also be sold to villagers for a low price. There should be many to collect, maybe 20-50 types of fossil. They could spawn only one per chunk and at any level underground, but there wouldn't be one in every chunk. Maybe like one in every ten chunks. This seems like a very good suggestion to add to the game, and in my opinion, should definitely be added to the game.

Perfect idea! I had this myself, so I'm glad to see it's already posted. Minecraft doesn't have fossils in the game, it has buried skeletons. They need these!

I like pokemonman07's point about them becoming collectible items. I'm imagining having a personal museum of fossil rocks behind glass. I have this to add:

    • Fossils should be sorted by depth, like ores (e.g., trilobites at 0–30, ferns 30–256, bivalves 50–256, stromatolites 0–256)
    • This is an opportunity for Mojang to draw up freaky new Cambrianesque lifeforms!
    • (If they're permineralized fossils, I don't think they'd have coal in them, but I could be wrong. Wouldn't the coal just catch fire in the furnace tho?)
    • They shouldn't occur in the igneous rocks (granite, diorite, andesite, basalt) but SANDSTONE & TERRACOTTA YESSSS

they would spawn more often in the deserts and most often in the badlands.

one reason for the coal is because the fossil structures spawn with coal replacing some of the bone.
