Minecraft's new cave generation is AMAZING. The Mojang team has really outdone themselves, creating cave variants and and lowering and raising the world. The caves are all beautiful... but what's the point of all that beauty if no one can see it?
In the latest snapshot, you can make a world, go into spectator mode, and find caves all right. But if you don't have night vision, the caves are pitch black. And this poses two problems. One: the player is likely to use the cave for resources. They can't see the resources if there's no light. And these new caves are so large, it's gonna take a LOT of torches. And even if they torch the floor, there's the harder and more tedious matter of torching the walls. Two: Mobs. Mobs in Minecraft spawn in dark places. These caves are exactly that. And even though caves are meant to be challenging, it's hard to fight and light areas up at the same time. And unless you use Optifine and have a Flame bow, you can't light up the area where the mobs are spawning before they spawn again.
So here's some solutions.
First of all, consider making glow lichen MUCH more common. It's a cool idea but it barely lights up caves at all, which is what it's meant to do.
But picking up where the Optifine Flame bow comment left off, it would be nice to have a "light arrow" of sorts. Not dynamic lighting, but where the arrow hits a block, it places a light source block. Could be crafted from shroomlights or glowberries, but this would really help light up caves.
