Why not use a texture pack?

Can texture packs give each piece of gear a different enchantment glint color? I don't think that's how texture packs work.

not to mention many people don't have access to texture packs

A texture pack wouldn't be able to have different colors for different items

Yeah i think this will definitely give archeology a more Minecraft-y vibe. Plus, I won't have to use texture packs to change the glint color.

Using colors to help differentiate a fortune pickaxe and silk touch pickaxe is useful.

This just seems like a great feature. It doesn't affect the balance of the game, as it is purely cosmetic.

The enchantment effect does seem awfully repetitive, and can be a little bit annoying to see on ALL of your gear. Armor and tools are always the same color as the material they are made from, so this would allow that little bit of personal customization to equipment that I feel is needed.

You can also use this to mark which tools of the same kind have different enchantments, which makes organizing far easier. (A silk touch pickaxe or a fortune pickaxe? An infinity bow or a mending bow? These are important distinctions when choosing what gear to take with you to different situations.)

That should be the main purpose of arqueology, customization. Most people say "Awwwww we need to get suupeeer OOOOPPPP items from everything otherwise the feature is baaaaaaaaaaaaaad" (read with little Entittled Kid voice), which is dumb. Arquelogy should be the type of thing you do to customize the apearence of your armor/tools. "Armor Molds" could be used either in recipes or in the smithing tabble to modify the apearence of your gear.

I love this idea! This feature would have some practical applications for easily differentiating your tools, as well as just being a fun way to customise your items! It also gives archaeology dig sites their own niche, without becoming overpowered from a game-progression stance.

This could be a good idea, but there's 2 problems :

first one is that, what would happen if you combined more than 1 relic with a tool? Would the colors mix? Or would it just be impossible? Maybe you might think its not that big of a deal, but if, for example, you make your diamond sword red, and after, during late game, you put a bunch of different enchants and you want to change the color. How would it work? I wouldnt like to spend all my levels on another tool just to change the colour.

But nonetheless, the idea sounds pretty cool.

And the second problem, (well it's not really a problem but more a personal thought), i really think there should be some sort of mechanic. Not just turn this new relic into something purely decorative. Why not simply add some enchants to these relics? It would give a real reason to the player to actually go and find them.

But thanks for sharing this idea, with some small changes, im sure it would be very interesting :D

This is a great idea! May I add another suggestion, I suggest there be some items called, 'morph medals,' they have the ability to change the look of armour and items. Maybe your chromate changes colour based on three value you wear, maybe it could turn your armour invisible. They should be pretty rare, and one medal should only be used for one piece of equipment. Right now, I need to rename all my items to distinguish between the silk touch and fortune variants. This could seriously improve the gameplay, further, it does not detract anything not does it unbalance the game, in short, you have my vote.

You should also be able to put the relics on blocks and the blocks would have the glint on them when placed down. Maybe you could also change the color of your nether portal with them, too.

It should also change the color of the name. For example - if you have green glint, the name should also be green.

It should not be the colors of the dyes - it should be the colors of the text (dark red, red, gold/orange, yellow, green, dark green, aqua, dark aqua, blue, dark blue, purple/pink, dark purple, white, light gray, gray and black.

    Notes:

Colors should have their rarity - Example: red could be the most common and black should be rarest.

Maybe even different types of glints like sparkles, sheens or pulsating.

Archeology would definitely be something with this! Maybe Enchanted Relics could be made too! Using an enchantment table, you put in a crystal, and you get three different color options. Although it will cost 10 levels of EXP to create, making them valuable

I made a post saying that Infinity Arrows should be a different color than regular arrows to show how they are made of magic, maybe if you use a relic it could change the color of the Infinity Arrow? Shooting red arrows would be sick!

This could help identify people on worlds where gamertags are disabled. Or you could use it in a PVP match to see who is on your team without a gamertag

Minecraft needs more cosmetics like this imo, could enchanted relics be crafted? But are like really expensive?
