Perhaps wearing malachite armour could “soothe” some mobs, as it comes from the lush caves, a calm and beautiful biome, so if a neutral mob was angered by the player, after attacking the player wearing malachite armour, they would attack much weaker, and eventually forget why they were attacking you in the first place

I was going to suggest something similar. Copper ore should be a dark green or blue and green color resembling the actual copper ores because they’re beautiful. When mined, it should drop an ore block. If the ore block is smelted, it should yield copper. If taken to a crafting table, maybe four of them could be craftable into a decorative block of malachite with its distinctive light and dark green banding. The malachite block would be directional, so the sides would have wavy bands that line up, but the top would have more of a bubbly appearance, like an actual chunk of polished malachite. It would make sense for malachite to be craftable into green dye, too.

Alternatively, mining the ore block could drop up to 9 malachite fragments that can be smelted into copper nuggets or crafted into malachite blocks. Smelting the whole ore block (mined with silk touch) or a malachite block would give a copper ingot. The mechanic would be similar to how nether gold ore works but with an additional smelting stage to turn malachite pieces into nuggets.

@Evil Sharkey I wholly agree with you. These are my thoughts exactly. Please consider checking out my post on this topic called "Copper Ore Needs a Reskin". Thank you!

I sugest that Malachite found in a Biome called Crystal Caves. Beyond this ore being exclusive to this biome, it would have a higher chance to spawn Amethist Geodes and Lapis Lazuli, like gold in Mesa. The uses to Malachite would be mostly about enchanting and more magic in Minecraft. So, it could be used to alter the enchantment shown in the enchantment table, and when you alter it, consumes the Malachite shard, making a cool animation, like the totem of undying

Another use for it would be combining it with Lapis to make a crystal called  Magic Crystal, that can make a new set of magic armor and tools, that would give the same protection as iron, the durability of diamond armor and would be more suitable to enchantments, costing only 2 levels to enchant anything that previously costed 3 levels or more. It aslo could be repaired with Malachite and Lapis, it doesn´t need to be the formed crystal. One final use would be for a Magic Block, also made with Malachite and Lapis, that when put under an Enchanting table would reduce the amount of bookshelfs needed to get lvl 30 by a third.

I think it's a great idea! But I think that the only change to raw copper should be the texture and the name. I think that if you craft nine malachite you should be able to get a block of malachite, too.
Our ancestors didn't smelt raw copper, they smelted malachite; "raw copper" has a name. Minecraft should use it.

Did you know that malachite is green because it contains iron? Azurite is a blue copper ore that does not have iron.
