I've always thought - it does not make sense that when you reach the bottom of the Nether you encounter more bedrock. The Nether is supposedly below the overworld, and that makes sense. Supposedly below the Overworld bedrock you reach this hellish mantle dimension that is extremely hot and molten. It doesn't really make sense that when you reach the bottom of this dimension, you hit another layer of bedrock. What's below THAT layer??
I think a better, and FAR SCARIER thing to do would be to instead have the lowest four levels of the Nether instead be ENTIRELY LAVA, and the fifth level being mostly lava with some islands of safety should you go too low. At the bottom of the lava lake is entirely barrier blocks to prevent you falling into the void. This poses a real danger if you want to, for whatever reason, go to the lowest levels of hell, and makes a lot more sense than reaching another layer of bedrock.
