With the (GREAT!) addition of Netherrite in the upcoming update, I think everyone is excited to grab their diamond gear and face the Nether floor. This is endgame content, and I love it! Ancient debris mostly spawning under the lava sea is a challenge onto itself, but I believe we can make it even more interesting and spice up the lore, all without too much code implementation.
The idea is to have a continuous biome under the Nether Sea, maybe called "The Mantle", with no new features other than a few rare and sparse structures, thick fog, submerged cave generation (lava tubes!).
Down there, you'd uncover Ancient structures underground, made of Basalt, Terracotta, Nether Bricks, Bone and Quartz, or whatever else fits the theme and style of Ancient Debris. Similarly to the Ocean Ruins, you could find chests as well as a high spawn rate of certain mobs, say Voidfish (a brownish-black Silverfish retexture). You’d be mining for Ancient Debris when you stumble on a tomb-like dungeon of Wither Skeletons, where the spawner is surrounded by a bed of Obsidian, or a completely destroyed and submerged relic of some long-lost people, as well as the traps and treasures they’ve left behind.
Down the road, a new biome for the Nether floor grants the opportunity for a ton of growth! A Temple underground with a new Boss to conquer? New mobs? The possibilities are endless, and you open the door to a thousand creations and ideas to later build upon. Tell me what you guys think :)
