A cool way to add depth to crafting, arguably the most integral part of the game, is through Dynamic Crafting. It's actually an idea Notch wanted in the game, and it has the potential to actually be part of a crafting update. Basically, it means crafting tables require physical upgrades in order to craft certain items. An example of this is only being able to make iron armor if you have an anvil next to a furnace, within range of a crafting table.
So why add dynamic crafting to the game? Sure, it sounds tedious to get the 31 iron for an anvil, but the potential to upgrade crafting systems is actually enormous. First off, the fletching and smithing tables could be given functionality, which could then be passed on to the crafting table. For example, being able to craft different tiers of bows(diamond bows when) by having a fletching table near a crafting table. The second reason is that it could encourage creativity in how crafting areas are set up. With the loose guidelines for how certain objects could be crafted, the potential arrangements for these objects are limitless. The final reason is simple; Minecraft has become quite boring for many people. Adding in a new system for crafting has the potential to add a better feeling of progression to the game in a way that doesn't feel as tedious as RLCraft.
