Mending is by far one of the best enchantments in the game. It allows you to keep any enchantable item forever (as long as you supply exp).
Although it's an amazing enchantment, it could use some touch ups. Here are some examples:
- When holding a mending item, exp can count into you exp bar instead of repairing the item. Therefor it's usually a 50% change on whether your item mends, making the process slower.
- Mending repairs worn armor, but doesn't appear to prioritize armor with lower durability.
- Armor you're wearing sometimes gets prioritized over an item you are holding.
The way I'd hope to see mending work in the future, is that all items held in your hand/off-hand are prioritized over armor pieces. As well as when holding/wearing an item with mending, that has lost durability will mend 100% of the time, instead of the exp going into the exp bar about 50% of the time (I believe this will have minimal effect on gathering exp). As well as armor pieces with lower durability being prioritized.
