Wall lanterns

It would be convenient to be able to hang lanterns on walls rather than just ceilings or floors.

    Please add this feature to the game. As a builder, this would allow for a nicely decorated light for exteriors and interiors. 

    Jappa said on Reddit that the reason for not adding was to allow the torch and lantern to co-exist, keeping the lantern from making the torch useless. But if you take the example of tools, a diamond pickaxe essentially renders all other tiers of tools useless - because it's an upgrade. Technically speaking, a lantern is an upgrade of the torch. 

    • Torches haven't kept up with the game in terms of building practices. Once a player moves on from the dirt hut style houses it becomes ugly and is essentially never used as a decoration anyways. 
    • In real life, we don't still use torches on our walls. Because we've upgraded. 
    • The torch wouldn't be useless, it would be used primarily for adventuring and caving. Where as the lantern would be pretty much exclusively for building. 
    • Perhaps even giving the lantern redstone capabilities would be good. 
    • The price of the lantern gives it enough reason to be able to place it on the wall. Otherwise, a cheaper alternative would be torches - keeping it from being useless. Which again, goes back to the similarities of tool and armor.

    I think wall lanterns will help save a lot of wood, so we don't have to make fences.

    This will be better for decorating, as torches doesn't fit in with some building styles

    Lanterns and torches should also be able to be put on the sides of fences and walls (all fence variants) while were voting for it

    It would be perfect for outside a house, next to the doors. Having torches outside looks tacky! But with this... it would definitely help out the builders side of Minecraft :)

    Perhaps aswell as making wall lanterns, make them movable like bells are but no sound except for maybe some sort of *swoosh* sound. Just an idea to add on the main subject.

    Would be so appreciated! I hate having to create stuff to hang my lanterns on, as the are really the only pretty lightsource to me. Builder here haha

    I think the limitations we have and the solution the comunity makes up for them, make minecraft special in it's own way. That's why I won't vote for this. If you want something diffrent, make it up yourself! 

    I'm not saying that change is bad, but I feel like updates should be about new stuff to inspire us, instead of improving old things.

    I believe it should be added because any addition to the game that gives the player more building possibilities is a welcome addition. Also, we need a cave update. ;)

    Hanging lanterns is also a good opportunity to introduce chains that you can hang the lanterns, as well as other things on too.
