After playing Minecraft Story Mode and seeing the colored lighting, I've been disappointed in the light color in Minecraft

It never made sense to me that (especially in shaders) a torch made the same color light as a sea lantern)

I love this idea, also as a programmer I could think of a way to make it perform better.

If the lighting system works the way I think it does, aka every block has a value of light level from 0-15, then I have an idea. Maybe it could be that every block could also have a color from 0-15, like how you used to spawn in colored wool and stuff with commands. This wouldn't allow blending of colors, but it would allow up to 16 unique colors without taking up too much space.

Colored light would be extremely useful in changing the atmosphere of a build.

I personally expect that this is one of those features that will happen, just not soon due to the rewrite of the lighting system required. Though, who knows? Maybe it'll never happen, or maybe it'll even happen in 1.17.

I would suggest a new light emitting ore Luminite. It could appear and many different colors and would light up caves with a colored glow. This would leave all regular lights with the standard white color and open up the door for a new light object created from Luminite. It could interact with redstone to turn lights on or off. Possibly even change the emission output in a scale effect.

coloured glow lighting ... awesome idea

Light used in practically any light source tends to emit the same color (white). To help build more atmosphere in the world, certain lights should emit a different color. for ex: soul fire's could emit a more cyan color, redstone ore can have a more red hue, lava should create an orange atmosphere, even the new glow berries in the cave & cliffs update should have a yellow tone to them. It's just not as appealing to use the same color for every light source.

Would like some "black light" or something that doesn't omit visible light, but hinders spawning of creatures. Though "black light" might rather be used to darken an area (with or without hindering creatures spawning).

This sounds like a great excuse to add a luminescent ore!

This is in the RTX version of Windows 10 Minecraft, but I'd love to see it in the base game!

Would be a very neat addition that opens up a door of endless creativity. RTX collaboration feature already showcased what Minecraft could potentially do with colored lighting, it's only a matter of time before this takes into serious consideration.

The three colors of froglights really beg for slightly different light colors.

That opens the can of worms that ALL light sources should have a color.

Light from torches/candles/campfires/lanterns/glowstone could be made slightly warmer; light from redstone and lava could be made a LOT warmer; light from soul torches/lanterns and sea pickles could be made significantly cooler; light from sea lanterns could remain white.

The step further -- and I think what the OP wanted -- would be that stained glass (panes) would affect the color of light passing through them.  The step further than THAT would be to incorporate stained glass into lanterns.

I would love this, it would be a lot of fun, once I was making a geiming room but I wanted to put colored lights and there aren't any.

Yes! They already have that mechanic for beacon beams, surely every other light source in the game wouldn't be that hard!

I can't find a coloured lights mod that works for minecraft bedrock. I want to build the backrooms.

2022, still hoping colored lighting becomes a thing. It'd be well worth redoing the engine for lighting. let us use dyes on lanterns or redstone lamps to provide us more options when lighting places!

I don't know about dyeing lights, but at least make soul fire and sea lanterns produce bluish light.

Hello Sorry to disappoint you but it already exists on Bedrock with a special RTX pack or on java with a modified shader configuration or more specific shaders Minecraft will really not support this addition in vannia because it consumes a lot of resources but it could put some color a little modify as with the torches and optimize them well. I think it must be possible but it must also be complicated to develop for games however it won't look like RTX or shaders :'(

It's been kind of annoying how the spinoff games and artwork (Dungeons, Story Mode, Legends) look better than the actual Minecraft, and one of the main differences is colored lighting. Lava should glow red, torches orange, sea lanterns cyan, etc. It would make the game look so much better! Some shader packs do it, why not vanilla?

If a concern is keeping the game simple enough to run on low-power devices (like the tablet I'm currently using) they could make it an option in the graphics settings.

as someone who builds a lot of nightclubs and concert venues this would be the best thing to ever be added to minecraft. Even using stainedglass windows should in theory tint light to the respective color
