I mean the plants are useful for early game and mass production even without farming machines, while animals require way more constant work to get the food and really only get overwhelmingly better once you have a huge stock and looting on a weapon.

I do think it'd be nice to see a varied diet being helpful, but I don't think each food needs a specific benefit.

I agree with @ConcertedSea1 not all foods need to have a benefit.

I think suger rush should also give jump boost and could stack.
Once the effect wear off you get a equalivent sugar crash effect which slows you down

I do not necessarily think that all food should have an extra benefit, but I do like it for the ones who make some sense, like the sugar rush and the night vision carrots(as long as it doesn't make the potion useless). I don't think the meat really needs extra buffs since it is pretty good already

another idea to balance food is to make some other types of food easier to make/ farm, as I think it is pretty strange that it takes two wheat to raise a cow, and three wheat to make bread. Also, the mobs seem to get born and grow up faster than crops grow.

So it is not only/so much that the types of food itself are out of balance, but probably more the way of producing it as well.

This! Every food should be useful. Every consumable and piece of equipment should be useful.

It's a bummer that I have no reason to grow crops that aren't wheat or in potions, or raise animals other than cows, or bake practically anything. There are so many items that I never make because they aren't useful or interesting.

Everything should enhance gameplay. Variety is good and all but I think a strong focus on making that variety interesting is key. Otherwise, it's in the game forever just so it could be useful in the first 20 minutes once, as only a stepping stone to something that is interesting or useful, or for someone who wants to roleplay.

I'm talking about game design methodology here that others won't feel as strongly as me about but I'm a firm believer that upgrading should expand possibilities rather than obsolete new or previous accomplishment, especially in a game with so many potential play styles.
