There should be armor for dogs, there would be three variants: Iron, gold and diamond. The armors would only be finding in chests as random loot similar to horse armor. This armor would help keep your dogs from dying. Gold armor would increase dog's protect by 50%, iron would be 60% and diamond would be 70%.

does the armor have a durability?
This is a great idea I feel so depressed when my doggo dies and I'm reluctant to bring him or her with me to explore.
Dogs became so fragile that in late game you can bring it with you at night or it will probably die,it's more of a burden than a help
TinglyButton987 I think it should have durability as a trade off for being enchantable, if it's just normal armor then it won't help much from fall damage, fire, or creeper blasts.
The armor should also get enchantments
This is an extremely good idea because just like horses, dogs are useful in combat and alike scenarios.
We love our pets in Minecraft, but alas we cannot get too attached, for exploring this blocky world is very dangerous... not to mention pets, like in real life, have a habit of moving in front of you. I've lost manny a good boy/girl by my own hands be it sword, axe, or bow since they boldly jump between me and the monsters. Every time it happens I curse myself for being able to flatten forest and level mountains, but not able to craft armor for my doggos.
Armor for dogs is an excellent idea is what I'm trying to say. If they add dog armor in a update they should also add dog variants (they've been around longer than cats and they still haven't gotten unique skins?!) and a way to make your dog's attack power stronger.
I do like the idea of dogs being able to wear armor.
But I think it should be crafted using scute instead of a loot item.
Scute is quite useless right now which is a shame because it is very unique and challenging to obtain compared to other items.
This would add a little bit more use to it.
There should be leather armor to wich you can dye
Best idea ever. And BTW all my dogs are dead😭
Along with being able able to enchant dog armor there should be special enchantment that instead of having a dog die, the dog is teleported to your last respawn. To keep it balance if necessary the armor durability should lose some of its durability. I want this mostly because i would still get depressed if my dog died.
This is a great idea, plus it would make it less stressful to take your dog outside the house
Yes I love this idea.
You should just be able to craft it the way you craft regular chest plates, but upside down
This should be in the game
I think there should be leather dog armor too! You could die it different colors, just like the other leather armor types! I also thought that villagers could trade you dog armor. You know, since they are people too and they know you want your pet to be safe.
Also it would be cool if cats had armor too.
:)Yes! I think dog and cat armor would be an awesome idea. I would love to see them with similar armor options as horses or players and having craftable armor peices. I also think giving the dogs new skins and variants is good too.
In addition, I think it would be cool to have a new action for dogs as well; like fetching sticks or dropped items, burying bones, or digging up holes in the dirt. (Cute doggo tricks)It should be like horse armour
Lol pewds will give this to Sven right away
Id be happy if we could just stick armor on any animal. Just an iron helmet or chestplate im not using on my pig cow or dog would be great
How about pet armor with only leather variant, and cats will try not to put it on because in real life cats hate costumes.
I think there should be a dyable leather option as well for earlier in game, for players who can't quite access those materials.
Aye, this definitely has my support. I don't really know anyone who would go outside with their dogs, just because they're so fragile and selflessly lunge towards danger.
they should have dog vests because they are the ones that are going to battle on the battlefield
