First of it’s more like gray than blue, and there is only 1 free cape so this would be a great edition to the game and it won’t effect gameplay, maybe elytras could have banner designs too?

Bilbo Baggins but we can't customize capes on Bedrock. What we need is banner pattern elytra.

It would also be veey cool if you could keep the gradient but with 2 colours, example would be a red and blue fade, or even if we could put them into a loom and dye them that way

Show off new colours flying around I suppose would work like a bit like leather armour infinite colours.

Although you can get elytra to match capes, capes cannot be acquired in unmodded Java Edition, and you can only get them in Bedrock through skin packs. But I don't want to spend money on the skin packs, so I want to be able to dye Elytra all 16 dye colors, as well as decorate them with banner designs.

It would be great if we could add patterns to elytra using banners!

@Bilbo Baggins, while the elytra does automatically match your cape, most people do not know how to make a custom cape. Being able to dye an elytra would be much simpler for many Minecraft players.

While jeb did say that custom elytra skins would be added via skin editor options. I disagree as this would kind of ruin the point of the special cape textures since they could easily replicate them like modded capes ruin the value of the real ones. Dying them would be enough to have them match your skin and express yourself while respecting the value of capes and those who own them.

Maybe combine with a banner like the shield?

I like the idea but the already existing capes are changing elytras, i don't know how would you combine the two.

We really need this! Then you can make elytra much more aesthetically pleasing, other than using a cape.

I think that if you have a cape design on an elytra then the color will make a border around it

Maybe instead of dyed, we can use BANNERS on elytra

Yes please, Simple but good idea.

I feel like it should be more difficult to change the appearance of the elytra, maybe an enchantment or an achievement?

No because we already have elytra that match with the cape, and one of the two features would be broken if they tried to add both

They did promise at one point that you would be able to upload a skin for your own Elytra (Similar to a player model skin) but that was 5 years ago and they probably thought people could make inappropriate skinned Elytras or just copy the official cape texture Elytras. I think dyeing them is a nice compromise as it is simple colors, customizable, and keeps the exclusivity of the cape textured ones. Everyone is happy.

This would do wonders for customization and not having to buy 3rd party elytra / cape customization. Many skin packs capes on Bedrock are still missing elytra textures & not being able to customize the color of your existing capes you have (On Java or Bedrock) makes me consider wanting to dye my elytra even when I have a cape as the colors are limited.

Also If implemented, please let us have the full gradient of colors availible via commands like with Leather armor.

If this happens, it would be best if it matched hex colors like Leather armor and not just the 16 default colors. Quark mod had something like this in 1.12 but the feature hasn't been ported to later versions, so it's definitely doable.
