The Minecart system leaves a lot to be desired, but just adding linkages would improve the experience so much, moving materials in a world in bulk would be incredibly easy if it weren't for the glitchy physics the minecarts in game use. Curves and inclines always leave the possibility of bounce back, adding some kind of coupling system would hopefully bypass this issue, allowing players more of an ease of access to what could be a great ingame tool.

I was just coming to post this and then saw you already did it! I really hope this idea gets traction because I have been wanting this for a few years now.

UnlistedMonk you can place a furnace minecart on both sides

There is no excuse now that chains are in the game and the Cave update is coming out FIX FURNACE MINECARTS!!!

I had a similar idea like this but you would create something with copper but as I was waiting for the pinding approval the next day it was gone and I don't know why can someone please tell me

This would be perfect for making multiple passenger roller coaster! I love this idea!

in addition to that for the second part of the update, they should add that in since it's actually the caves part of the update and also a good idea would be to be able to choose which direction a furnace Minecart faces so then like that you can have trains in the game, or just had a locomotive engine which can be used for a lot of things and it can use copper and other materials.

Like this idea. Maybe each furnace minecart could pull, say, 9 carts, and reliably bring a train up to a higher speed. For longer trains, maybe multiple furnaces should be used (or lots of powered rail) with some max train length, say, 32 carts. These trains could also partially load chunks, to keeps it moving out of render distance, for long distance transportation.

Also, to keep things simple for new players (and not mess up old redstone mechanisms), single minecart physics should be exactly the same. Only for trains, you need wider curves and shallow gradients, which a player can figure out with simple experimenting.

Finally, for the redstoners, a directional form of powered rail would be helpful, so you can get the train going in the right direction / slow it down more controllably. And perhaps the signal strength of a detector rail could measure speed as well.

Brilliant. Chains need more use other than decoration (speaking of which has anyone suggested chains connecting at corners yet? it seems like someone has had to have thought of it before and i don't want to repost c':) and this would make me use minecarts WAY more! It would also make rollercoasters much better.

There would need to be some way of making sure the minecarts don't bounce off of eachother when linked together but other than that this would be fairly easy to implement I think.

Using 2 Tripwire Hooks and 1 Chain in the middle 3 horizontal boxes of the Crafting Table Grid can make the link. It works similarly to the lead where you can attach it to fences but it will only attach to mine carts and other tripwire hooks on walls. You can connect up to a maximum of five carts total (so using up to four links to connect them, separate from the wall hook).

This would be great with the Minecart Furnace I heard was removed from bedrock edition. Reason is that when the Minecart Furnace was powered it can move by itself supposedly moving other mine carts in front of, and now with the link behind them as well. Example; To make a Train, a minecart furnace can be anywhere in the connection of the five carts to push and pull them along a rail.

I will now elaborate on the idea of breaking the link limit. I mentioned before; using a Powered Minecart Furnace can push an pull carts in front and behind. I am thinking that as long as you have a Minecart Furnace in between 4 carts you could in theory have as many carts being moved by Minecart Furnaces, but I think keeping it at five total carts is fine.

This could also work without furnace minecarts

Also, furnace minecarts ate pretty much locomotives

Another add would be coal blocks powering for longer and faster than regular coal

I think this one is already popular, but buffing minecart speed would be good, as right now they're only

good for afk travel, and only peak with a piston contraption, also making it so minecart trains running on furnaces have a power-to-weight function, so you cant go max speed with tons of carts behind it, also making powered rail and furnace cart speed stack so furnace carts would still be useful for more speed if you wanted it, though they should also make sure items from minecart hoppers still get to where they need to be by assuring the minecarts don't Outspeed the tick (make the max speed for carts 20 mph, it makes sence considering how fast early steam trains could go, and is in the tick range

It would be very useful. I used to want to make a long railroad, and I didn't want to build powered tracks along the entire route, and when the train set pushed through the furnace met a turn, it would repel or derail. If the chain acted as a coupling, the wagons with the furnace would finally be used. (sorry for bad english).

This would be amazing, especially for bedrock players without furnace minecarts. Also, they should add jukebox minecrarts.

This, coupled with a much-needed speed increase, would make minecarts a viable method of transportation again!

I was thinking about this last night, but heck I was late. Maybe Mojang should add this on the next update, i'm sure it will be useful!

As the furnace minecart is not really that great, I propose a new kind of engine to pull coupled minecarts with: The Copper Engine.

It would be an uncraftable rail vehicle that rarely replaces the loot minecarts in mineshafts.
when first found, it would be broken and fully oxidized. Once right-clicked, the player opens a repair window, where they have to go and collect parts to then place into the engine. (like, a lever to replace the missing throttle). Loot minecarts found in mineshafts can also spawn with unique loot items dedicated to repairing broken engines (like a set of spare wheels, or a new headlight). Right-clicking with an axe removes an oxidisation level.

Once repaired, the player can then right-click it to mount. Same as with other mounts, it has an inventory. Place some coal and some water into the respective slots, and you can move it (by pressig forward/backward). Players can couple minecarts to it, but the speed decreases the more minecarts are coupled to it. Engines without coupled minecarts are about 1.5 times as fast as accellerator rails. Engines with 10 or more minecarts can no longer move.

Also, because customisation is fun, if you right-click an engine with a color when fully unoxidized, you dye it.

I would like to add that to unlink two carts you would need a pair of scissors (as in real life) and this, in turn, adds one more use to the scissors (which have few useful uses)

I love this idea, currently minecarts aren't as useful as they could be. If you could connect them it could make cross world item moving or large scale mining quick and easy.
