Already in java additions if you place a furnace Minecraft then the 4 other carts behind it and use coal facing the carts then use coal on the furnace mine cart facing away from the carts the furnace Minecart will pull them!

Coupling or carts to make an ore train is a wonderful idea but how will that work with curved track will the cars stay together. I would love to see a little more effort in the ore train area. You could use redstone to electrify the locomotive powered rails whatever. Redstone and or not gates can set up blocks for remote operation. If you worried about making transportation to easy for the player then trains coupled dont have to carry players. Either way this could really be done nicely and correct....not sure ? Ask a railroaded like my self.

Two Minecarts will not follow each other if you ride either of them. Two of them will SMASH together and begin part ways.

The chain should also be able to craft Chain-mail Armour! This idea is fantastic!

I think this idea could pass if leads are used instead. Mojang would rather reuse pre-existing items than add new ones.

I agree with DownfieldYeti5, the chains could be used to make chainmail armors too.

It would be simpler to couple minecarts by clicking a minecart with another one while crouching... Simple method and would not require additional blocks.

Interesting although I also think we could probably do this with leads. If this is implemented I think one should also be able to hit a chain causing it to break.

Maybe also have a furnace Minecart in the front to pull the carts, but isn’t as fast as using powered rails. I can see this being useful for moving mobs/animals, and by moving items by using a minecart chest. Pls bring this into Minecraft!!! *cough* roller coasters *cough*

Chains in general are a great idea for an addition to the game. Chains could be used to make chainmail armour. You could perhaps use an additional device that connects chains to a wall. Chains could behave like leashes. You could chain up animals. Chains could even be used on players. You could have keys and locks. You could create a train with minecarts and chains. Cains could be used to make redstone, I dont know about this one though.

This is an amazing idea, I would love to see it added to Minecraft. Ever since I just started playing minecraft I would setup a server with this plugin called traincarts. With this plugin you could link minecarts and create trains. Also you had the ability to place signs under a rail and make stations, set a speed and things like that. I would always create rollercoasters and it was so much fun.

If they add this they should also add new types of rail, like a station rail, a "advanced powered rail"? with the ability to set a certain speed on the minecart. If you're making a darkride you can have it go slow so people can look at the scenery you built and when building a rollercoaster you could make it go really fast.

Maybe even add upside down or vertical rails?

This would make minecraft an amazing game, there's a huge themepark community out there on minecraft that also want this.

perhaps we could even have lifting, or pulling devices using chains, and red stone. Just imaging platforms of slime blocks or honey blocks connected together being lifted by chains. Instead of several piston blocks, we have a chain roller block that you can continue to add chains to in order to increase length.

I had a similar idea yesterday.

Craft an existing minecart with an iron ingot to create a cart with coupling, which can then be coupled together with others. Any cart can receive the coupling. To decouple the carts, pass them over an Activator Rail.

I like this as an alternative to linking minecarts with leads.

I think this thread should be combined with the thread for making minecarts more robust, ect.

This this is an AMAZING idea! I was actually going to post a similar idea, and then I saw that you had already posted one! I really hope the Mojang adds this to Minecraft!

The addition of chains sounds like an amazing idea! Not only could it actually give a function to furnace minecarts by allowing huge trains of minecarts with chests to be carried by it, it could also give the ability to craft chain mail armor! I'm not exactly sure if Mojang is adamant about chain armor being an un-craftable item, but if they are flexible with it, it would give the ability to finally create chain armor! As others have also said, the chain may also have the capability to be placed, giving a lot more options to builders in terms of chandeliers, hanging lanterns, creepy settings, etc.

It would be really nice to be able to use minecarts to make a train with multiple cars where you fuel the furnace cart at the head of the train and it propels carts behind it forwards. You could transport items and/or players very easily without having to acquires lots of gold or getting carts to glitch together.

I could see this with the new chain block. It'd be nice for boats too, especially if they get around to adding the chest in a boat!

So as of this week chains have been added, and they can create chain armor and be used in builds. It would be cool if they could be used like leashes to tie mobs, more importantly Villagers, as this would make it easier to move them around from one village to another. They could also be used as others suggested for connecting minecarts, and the furnace minecart could be improved by making it move on its own when burning fuel, it would only move in one direction though, so if you had a train you would put one on either end.

If we make a locomotive what is the need for fuel when you have powered rails. I suggest that powered rails will lose their power ability when you ride over them 30 or so times. They must be repaired by activating them with redstone. Additional redstone will give more charges.

That would make minecart chests viable , but they arent needed anymore since htey solved that problem with ender chests (which wasnt enough) AND shulker chests.

    For that reassoonnn, I'm ooouuuttttt.

Love it. Traincraft isn’t available for bedrock edition so this would be perfect. Now with a powered minecart, OH YEA BABY. Now that’s a train

If Minecarts could connect to form a train and pull each other It would make Minecarts extremely useful! In addition furnace, Minecarts should be able to pull or push a train of carts controlled by a player, and a new smelter or smoker cart should be faster than a furnace cart.

This would be a great use for the chains that are being added in the Nether Update! It would allow minecarts to be pulled by furnace minecarts, and you could make small minecart trains of chest minecarts and regular minecarts! Full support!
