Interesting idea; one thing though, if a 3D “cube” is not a perfect cube it is called a cuboid. (Perfect cube being each side the same perfect square)

I have wanted this feature for a long time. The customisability should be more limited though, because server admins don’t need more reports to take there time away. The skin size probably shouldn’t be changeable except maybe by 1 pixel each way, and transparency should be really reduced. I think the player model should basically be the same as it is, but with the overlay more customisable and more layers; ie make the overlay made out of mini cubes rather than tiles to give a better 3D effect.

Great idea! I think though that you should be able to have parts of the body that are invisible but you can't use that skin on a server. It's a great idea though!

The hitbox of all players should be the same! You could make giant decorative wings to your angel skin, yes, but your enemies can’t hit those!

That would solve all fairness problems!

How about animated players and mobs and ragdolls and fatailitys

I want this so bad, I 3D modeled my skin for animations and it looks so weird to see it normally in-game. My skin's head is a burger, and I'd love to make it actually look 3D and real.

This is laid out very well.

Mabe instead of 2x3 block skins, just like 2.25x1.25.

Also, this would be great in Java edition. Mabe if the mdel definitions were the same, so you could reuse the model on PC/bedrock?

I love this idea. The players need this Mojang. Please add this in.

this would be a dope re-addition. I've just gotten into the world of model making and skin pack creation and would love to do some experimenting with this as a plausible feature.

If they implement this, which I really hope they do because I love the idea, an option should be added so players who prefer the classic skin model won’t see add ons. It would also be nice to have more high definition skins, allowing for even more customization.

Once, on a server, I saw a player with a tiny custom-model skin (Yoda), and they were on Skywar or something, and they were very hard to see, and the item held and the armor were INVISIBLE. Talk about UNFAIR. I would LOVE to see custom models in both Java and Bedrock, but make sure that they cannot be used to gain an unfair advantage. =D

Maybe for bedrock and/or Java, there could be a skin editor in minecraft (like an official minecraft skin editor) and like the paint or eraser there could be one for adding layers. (I dont know how to make a custom skin so this would be easier).

I hope this gets added sometime

Of course, it probably won't because one issue is that Microsoft will lose money because no one will buy skin packs.

For multiplayer people would prob get small characters for a harder hit box

On most servers I think that they remove custom models from your skin so it should be fine. I think this is a great idea and I would truly have a better experience playing Minecraft if this feature was brought back.

DzakiyGaming03 I hope this comes to fruition and if it does I'd love to get to work on that program right away and I will get to work as soon as they announce that it is confirmed to becoming.

Voted and followed. This is a well-thought-out and well-written request for something relatively simple that would genuinely add to the experience of Minecraft; as a player, I often feel that my creativity and ability to express myself through Minecraft is inhibited by the limitations of the current skin system, and even a brief Google search makes it clear that there is support for an update to this area across the community.

Everyone who sees this post and has Facebook and/or Twitter should share this post to try and get it more votes.

Have you considered also posting this in the Villagers, NPC, Humanoids category? It may be more likely to get noticed there.

Alright guys, It's been more than a year since I've posted this suggestion. Thanks for all of the support for this idea, I really apreciate it. Now, I will create the summary of the suggestions from you guys and more suggestions from myself too. And also, I'm sorry in this comment there are no visual explanation for these suggestions.

    Summary of Suggestions :

    1. Player Model Size

"Mabe instead of 2x3 block skins, just like 1.25x2.25." - GiantNuker

That was a better size limit! It would make the model make more sense. and also, my friend said that the minimum size should be 1x1.75, because if it's in a multiplayer server, other player might have a hard time looking for the player with a 1x1.5 model size.

    2. Server Integrations

"I think though that you should be able to have parts of the body that are invisible but you can't use that skin on a server." - LuigiLikesBagel

Hmmm... Maybe servers should use an option to Allow the players to use custom 3D Model or not, Oh! and Java edition players might need to have an original minecraft model skin in order to add a custom 3d model, so they can join a Server with Custom Model Option disabled easily. For Bedrock edition will be even easier because of in-game skin selections.

    3. Armor, Elytra, and Cape

"Once, on a server, I saw a player with a tiny custom-model skin (Yoda), and they were on Skywar or something, and they were very hard to see, and the item held and the armor were INVISIBLE." - CoderTommy

I definitely didn't thought about armor, elytra, and cape before. My friend suggested that it needs to be shown on the involved bones (for armor, it might need to be overlayed on top of head, body, arms, and legs. for elytra and cape might need to be overlayed on body, just like hat on the head, jacket on the body, etc.). But, I think elytra and cape should be disabled(Invisible) for custom 3d model. And armor might still need to be overlayed on top of the skin.

    4. In-Game Store

"Of course, it probably won't because one issue is that Microsoft will lose money because no one will buy skin packs." - STORoguePatron

Come on Microsoft, isn't Minecraft a game for creativity? don't make people limited from their creativity because of money. Maybe if Microsoft & Mojang have reimplemented custom 3D model, they would have made even more money because of skin creators selling their creations through In-Game Store.

Thanks for reading the 1 year summary of suggestions for this post. Please comment more suggestions to make Mojang reimplement Custom 3D Model for Minecraft Java & Bedrock Edition!

THIS IDEA IS REALLY COOL! MOJANG gotta add this!

Maybe also the eye position choosing option? Like if the eyes on the skin are higher or lower you will see differently (higher eyes will see higher and lower will see lower, logic)

This is an amazingly well-written post! For a second I actually thought you had found a way to implement this! I feel like the biggest problems are sizing and animations. Servers should have a setting to block or allow unique sizing and animations on skins. I know that while the sizing might be limited to what it is now, at least adding skin animations would be cool! I could add glow-effects to my skin or create scrolling text of some sort. I know this might cause lag, but that's why there should be a setting to turn it off just in case it starts to cause problems. Custom modeling is already in skin packs in the store, so there is a way to make them already, it just isn't easy for non-programmers to use. I think this could be a great new update for Minecraft at some point, someone at Mojang needs to at least give the community a way to add hats and tails and things. Big thumbs up!

I disagree about the size, and strongly disagree with the width. Very unfitting especially when entering in a door way, I would just want to have the custom model like in the first pic (the girl with yellow ears) and the height limitation must just be 1.75 blocks to the height of husk (not sure of its block height).
