NOTICE

Are you sure you want to report this?

When you are making your redstone suggestions, please note that Java and Bedrock will not have the exact same the same redstone systems - this would require redoing redstone system completely on one platform or the other. The two systems are functionally different and are going to stay that way. Please be sure to tag your suggestions with (Java) or (Bedrock).

On the contrary, Vechrozilator, a black light could make an area look dark, but there would be “invisible light” that acts as regular light. This could prevent mob spawning without ruining the mood of a build.

Black lamps should add darkness but it's safe darkness so no mobs can spawn. This would make it so if you wanted to build something dark you could build it in any biome, not just the mushroom island

Colored lamps are something seen in certain minecraft spinoffs, like MC Story mode, so I think it would be cool to see them in the base game, as well as some of the other custom blocks seen in the spinoffs

    It can be done

if it was done I will be so happy

Rtx on widows 10 has a map that has coloured lamps so it’s actually possible

The light block can also be updated with a colour field when getting one from the command input. For example. /give @p Light_block (amount) (strength) (colour)

I think this is a good idea! And now there is a game version that supports ray tracing, so it would be better if Minecraft joined this idea.

Maybe add not only 16 lamps (in the colors of dyes), but let us dye the lamps in any color we want (like lether armor)

Maybe the different colours have different light levels. For exanmple: Yellow has 16 and Black has 5

This is a great suggestion and it isn't "non-Minecrafty" like dyed wood.

I would be happy with lamps that are coloured but all emit white light if that is necessary due to tech restrictions. Please also don't add this to the game if there will be severe parity issues EG java has coloured light and BE doesn't.

If coloured lights can work then great! Maybe make it toggle-able just like smooth lighting.

Black redstone lamps could just have white (normal) light but at a lower light level. EG white is light level 15, grey is light level 10, black is light level 5. Oh and light grey lol.

So i was thinking for the colour black it doesn't give off light but it take all light away in the given area. This would make it cool for horror maps. Or just trolling

Someone said that it wouldn’t be non vanilla like dyed wood, but mojang actually has added that in the nether update, so the chances of this being a thing is very high, likely to release with the 1.17.1 Cave Update.

If they add colored lighting than they should also change the color of different lights like sea lanterns or soul fire. Sea lanterns should glow white and soul fire should glow cyan.

It should also be in Torch and Lantern form (always active), so I could build with colored light easily, without using redstone. This should come together with the Super Fancy Graphics, which supports raytracing. (it is actually planned to be added)

Would it simply be crafted with stained glass instead of normal glass?

a colored lamp in and of itself is bleh, but just one lamp that is a different color based on power level used to activate it? now that would be useful.

    something like:

    Recipe: {

Rose Red Dye, Cactus Green Dye, Blue Dye

    Comparator*, Redstone Lamp, []

Rose Red Dye, Cactus Green Dye, Blue Dye

    }

Function: Turns to solid color texture and emits light when powered. Color depends on power level used to activate it

    0: Off / Black

    1: Dark Red

    2: Red

    3: Light Red

    4: Magenta

    5: Yellow

    6: Dark Green

    7: Green

    8: Light Green

    9: Violet

    10: Purple

    11: Dark Blue

    12: Blue

    13: Light Blue

    14: white

    15: Brown

    * - replace comparator with a redstone dust if you feel that's too expensive

A black redstone lamp should just emit less light than a regular lamp (ex. if a regular lamp emits a light level of 15, a black one could emit a light level of 7).
