NOTICE

Are you sure you want to report this?

When you are making your redstone suggestions, please note that Java and Bedrock will not have the exact same the same redstone systems - this would require redoing redstone system completely on one platform or the other. The two systems are functionally different and are going to stay that way. Please be sure to tag your suggestions with (Java) or (Bedrock).

Black redstone lamps should be craftable. They can have a special purpose: They don't appear to illuminate the area but they prevent hostile mobs from spawning within the area.

I think it would be cool to have this or colored glowstone, seeing how lighting affects a location's mood greatly. It's just a brilliant idea!

Okay look, THis is great, and I'm late, but, Black colored should emit a darker purple, Ever heard of a black light?

Color should depend on the strength of the redstone signal going into the lamp: down the rainbow (roygbp)

I'd love if not only the lamp itself but also the light it's giving off would be in the color. This would give setting a mood so much more freedom. A cold place could have blue lighting and a cozy place could be given orange lighting etc... This would also be really cool for redstone and making a disco etc

I like the idea of them being like the signs, you right click with a dye and the lamp becomes said colour!

I wonder if this could become a possibility after the reworking of the lighting engine on both Java and Bedrock platforms of the game, not even mentioning shaders and Nvidia RTX. I don't believe the concept has been denied by head developers like Jens, as far as I know, this could happen!

I definitely agree with this, but I had an idea for a more unique way of obtaining the colored redstone lamps. During Mine-con 2019, we were introduced to 1.16, the Nether Update. In the trailers for upcoming biomes, some sort of weird light emitting block can be see in the nether wart trees. Perhaps these new blocks can function similar to glowstone, where upon the block being broken, shards, fragments, or dust of some kind is dropped. Combining this with dye and a redstone lamp could add a more adventurous and prideful meaning and background to your wonderful colored lighting.

Black light does not exist. It can be used differently somehow.

it would be nice to make the light from the rest of the blocks color. That is, the torch glows yellow, the redstone torch is red, the marine lantern is blue, and so on.

I would like mu rooms to be grey so that it looks like in those 60s horror moves and crime Noir movies.

Mabey also a red lamp which can be used like in a laboratory game then some error happens and this and that.

Because the nether update is live, They can change light emitted by light source to blue. making the room look blue. I mean how can white/yellow light be used and make a room liik yellow, yet blue light is also possible.

Black Redstone lamp should be a blacklight effect, so people and whites become brighter

    Yes, Yes, Yes!

This is a fantastic idea that I've seen before, but I'm glad someone put it here.

Black, dark grey, and grey could all be different levels of dimmer because they're less bright.

Instead of rewriting the lighting engine maybe Mojang could make the default shader tint blocks and entities based on a light-color tag.

Maybe instead of the red blue green light system, it could follow the paint primary system llike cauldron colors do.

But why do you need this? You can just put stained glass on top of a normal red stone lamp and you get the same effect.

I disagree. We already have stained glass; redstone lamps should be left the same, but stained glass should change the color of the light emitted by light sources when placed in front of them.

Also, if you're rewriting the lighting engine to incorporate color, make Soul Fire Torches/Lanterns emit blue light and Redstone Torches emit red light.

Finally, this might cause lag, so make it a world option that is off by default.
