Are you sure you want to report this?

Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

And the fact the the Minecraft team most likely wont see this is bugging me. But lets keep our hopes up.

Aiden Roby - the fact that it has an under review tag does in fact, mean the team has seen it. Thanks for your interest, and we look forward to your constructive ideas directly related to this discussion soon.

A possible solution for RatingOpossum's issue with signs being edited in maps would be to restrict adventure mode players from rewriting signs. Alternatively, use of a glass pane on a sign may lock it (similarly to 1.14's locked maps), although players in survival would still be able to rewrite the sign by breaking it regardless.

My only problem with it is wouldn't it be annoying on a server? I think it should be toggable to be able to change the sign.

This, in combination with the ability to use formatting codes on signs, would be an incredible enhancement for map makers and in general, all players!

The signs could be locked in the cartography table to prevent other players from editing the signs or made with a similar mechanic to banner building so they are movable & copyable.

Holding a sign and punching another sign could bring up the interface

Squatting to change the text could work, too.

Give us an eraser (made from a new block, rubber logs) to clear the sign and a pen (or a quill) to rewrite it. Give both a limited durability of 3 to 5. The eraser can be made from rubber logs like I said, and the pen from a stick and ink sac, or a quill from a feather and ink sac.

And ctr click to copy the sign with the words like a command block with +NBT so when you place it, it says the same thing as the sign you copied

If it were to be added this feature would be something that all players, have thought of and wanted for a quite long time.Just imagine being able to edit what you have written on your signs without breaking and placing them back, would be fantastic.

Another thing to add on to this: Being able to produce many signs with the same text. Basically if you were able to place a sign and write on it, and then it retained it's text, so you could potentially place multiple signs with the same message. I'm not sure how this mechanic would work, but mass-production of signs would be good for multiplayer servers, if someone wants to leave a message at everyone's house, but doesn't want to write it out many times.

Have a tool like a pencil to re-write signs but you can only rewrite your own signs

The NBT tag to say who placed it seems unnecessary. Someone could easily break and re-place a sign that they didn't place in the first place.
Maybe it could be only editable in creative/ survival mode and not adventure mode or spectator though?

This is so nice, the days of having to start all over after creating mistakes would be over!! I suggest crouching in front of a sign to re-write a sign after placing it.

Also, signs shouldn't lose their text when being placed somewhere else. It gets annoying and makes more sense for signs to keep its text when being moved.
