Honestly that all seems a little much. You'd probably want to keep it just the mermaids, not all the extra stuff. The mermaids alone have a lot of potential as a water mob. They can be set up like wolves, where they're tameable, but start neutral unless you make them hostile by doing something like hitting a mermaid, dolphin, or sea turtle nearby. And like wolves the can have a changeable appearance to show when they're hostile, where they appear human-like when neutral but turn fish-monster when hostile. Taming one could bring a few benefits, such as assisted swimming like what dolphins do, attacking underwater mobs for you, and/or saving you if you drown. Alternatively they could be a type of aquatic villager, trading for ocean materials, but it would be better if they spawned villages away from undersea temples, possible with a basic conduit at the center in place of a fountain

For some reason, I don't think finding mer-people would fit the theme of the game, though a forgotten structure they left behind before fleeing. (they would not be friendly with the drowned, and somebody has probably spawned the wither in the overworld before)

If they were added, I would prefer if they were only found in ultrarare structures in deep ocean trenches and cold ocean biomes and you could trade with them to upgrade your conduit so that it provides power for a far larger radius.

The current conduit would be the artificial (player made) version of the one the mer-people would make, as the mer-people created the original/more natural versions.

They would be so hard to find (and why they would live in cold biomes) is because they were fleeing the drowned and the guardians (which are clearly on the drowned's side)

They would be like villagers (in their actions, not their design) and would drop nothing, using pearls or prismarine as a currency.

I love it all. I got one thing to add though. They merpeople should have enchanted tridents that give them ability to use Riptide. Making them even harder foes to fight. Anyone like this idea? :D

I like this. I don't think they should be boys and girls. I think it would be funny if they were modeled after the villagers and their big noses. Maybe the Drowned would be attracted to their underwater villages, but to their own peril. Merpeople should fight back. Dolphins should be their pets/strays and take after both Cats and Golems by attacking Drowned and bringing home items. But yeah, Awesome idea!

I really like the idea of mermaid villages, but I don't think it would work well being combined with the underwater temples.

    Some improvements:

NPC mobs do not have gender, so their face should be a villagers.

Armies and neptune is too much.

Verdict: Maybe just sea villagers that trade like villagers but ocean stuff.

I agree that some of the post would be cool to have but I disagree with some of the things in the post like being able to take them and having neptune , also I don't want the mermaid tail that allows you to breath underwater it kinda replaces the conduit and turtle helmet .
