A great idea, something that could be used as an early (and possibly easier to obtain) alternative to Shulker boxes allowing players to carry twice their inventory size, working just like Shulker boxes keeping all items inside when dropped, and so as to avoid stacking preventing players from placing other backpacks and Shulker boxes inside them . They could work similar to chests placed onto donkeys and mules in which players can equip them on their backs. (Which on a side note could also introduce a new slot the ‘back slot’ which would allow players to equip elytra and backpacks while still being able to wear a full suit of armor). Crafting it would require leather, a chest, and possibly string or something (maybe even adding leather straps crafted from leather) to attach it to the players back.

I feel that the shulkers fulfill the need for portable inventory, however I think that if backpacks we added, they would act as an expansion of the instant access inventory...

Backpacks should be craftable with leather and a chest, but since it shouldn't ruin the purpose of Shulker Boxes it should only have as little as 3-9 slots.

You could settle this by creating 3 items called 'Bags': Pouch, Drawstring Bag and Sack.

Pouch: The Pouch has six slots and can only carry items. It is crafted with 7x hide in a cauldron shape with 1x string at the top middle.

Drawstring Bag: The Drawstring Bag has nine slots: six of them can only carry items, and the other three can carry blocks as well as items. It is crafted with 7x leather in a cauldron shape with 1x lead at the top middle.

Sack: The Sack has nine slots all of which carry any item and/or block except pouches, drawstring bags and other sacks. It is crafted with 7x leather in a cauldron shape with 1x lead at the top middle and 1x chest in the center. The sack works differently then the other two Bags as such that you could only carry one at a time, it must be held in hand. To access it's contents it needs to be placed as a block. Right-click to open and shift-right-clicked to pick up. Donkeys, mules and llamas can carry up to two sacks, these sacks can be removed.

The pouches and the drawstring bags could be carried like a normal items and you could have multiple ones but they cannot be stacked unless empty, then they stack up to 16. They are operated outside of the inventory (right-clicked when held to open). They cannot contain filled bags( pouch, drawstring bag and sack).

OMG THIS IS SUCH A GOOD IDEA.Yeah skulker boxes are cool but you might not be able ti mine them or get them in survival.Plus backpacks would be a lot better use of storage carrying.check out my animalupdate idea!!

I think the backpacks should probably be made out of leather and a chest. And you should be able to access them through your inventory without having to place them. And you should be able to dye them like how you do leather armour.

    Agree with SpecialisToL:

-9 more inventory slots at the cost of the chestplate armor

Backpacks can be implemented without making shulker boxes useless, they should be equipped in the chestplate slot, just like the elytra, that means they force the player not to wear a chestplate.
But more importantly, if the item itself just doubles your inventory when equipped, (like a double chest) then you'll only be able to use one backpack at a time, he backpack-item itself shiuldn't store the items, this does mean that when your double inventory were full, and you were to take yoir backpack off, it would drop half the items your carrying (like when you brake one half of a double chest).
This would be perfectly balanced, and should not be craftable in my opinion, because it would always be the first thing a player will use their leather for.
I think it would work best if these backpacks were found in dungeon-chests, like saddles.

Backpacks are a good Idea but they should only have as many item slots as a hopper so there is still a point to shulker boxes

Backpacks are way too necessary since the inventory gets filled to fast.

Backpack should be in the chest armor slot, so you trade protection for more inventory space.

Furthermore, if you drop the backpack, all the items inside would drop as well, because otherwise you could just fill backpacks and put them into your inventory, like shulker boxes.

Backpacks should be simpler to make them shulker boxes however they only add the protection of leather armor and you can only have one on you at any point in time to make sure not to OP.

Les boites de shulker suffisent. Il faut que se soit un item que l'on reçoit que à la fin car c'est a ce moments qu'elles sont utiles

Backpacks are super easy to implement in a Datapack!

Only 1 Minecraft command would have to be added to the game.
WE NEED TO BE ABLE TO OPEN CHESTS!

Currently, if you want to let a Player open a Chest per Datapack, you would have to spawn a minecart in front of him.

A better way would be to make a /chest command to open chest spaces like:

    "/chest wooden_chest {nbt.....}
    or
    /chest hopper {nbt...}
    or
    /chest shulker_box {nbt...(Colour?)}"

With this command the Map Maker could create a Backpack, GUIs and Menus!

Backpacks and Quivers as early game items would be an interesting addition, but would need restrictions to make less useful late game.

My suggestions on the Backpack; Crafting would be a log surrounded by eight leather, and each Backpack would have nine inventory slots. Like Shulker Boxes, Backpacks would keep their inventory when broken, stored, and placed. The limit on inventory slots would mean that the Shulker Box would be the better option once available.

Probably should not be stackable, or allowed to  store Backpacks in Shulker Boxes or other Backpacks to prevent Nesting Doll inventory.

Suggestion on Quivers; Crafting would be a leather surrounded by eight arrows, have a durability of 64, and not allow enchanting. Arrows are hard to come by in the early game, so a non-stackable item that can be crafted from a few arrows, but act like a full stack of 64 normal arrows would help.

Obviously, the Quiver would become pointless once a Bow with Infinity is obtained, or when stacks of arrows (or event tipped arrows) are attainable.

These restrictions are meant as a way to help in early game, but keep the items from becoming over powered in the early game, too. With better Options available already to replace them in Mid to late game already existing, these would simply be a bridge to those better options.

Good idea, but shulkers are kinda like backpacks. I do think it would be cool to not have to place something to open it.

I think this would be a nice idea. You could trade your armor slot to holster a backpack that could have not quite as much space as a chest, but maybe about 2/3 as much. It would also be cool if you could dye them as well

Even though there are shulker boxes, they can be fairly difficult to obtain. A backpack would be an easier item to obtain. It could probably be made using leather, which isn’t too hard to get. And this would also classify as a wearable item, so it would be very different from a shulker box.

I agree, we do need more travel storage. If you're planning a big build or some extensive mining in a ravine, you should have extra space for things to bring with and more space to store things you will almost inevitably pick up. Sure, if you die you lose more things, but that is just a risk you'll have to take for this much needed luxury of storage.

Backpacks could be like smaller shulker boxes, you can make them from leather and iron or some other early material
