Along with chest could there be crafting tables and furnaces in the boats?

I think adding 2 new boats would be a nice change to the game, both being bigger than the normal minecraft boat:

    • a boat that is bigger in size and can carry 1 or 2 animals with the player (this would be better for moving rare mobs back to your base without two trips that it takes in a normal minecraft boat)
    • a boat with at least a double chest worth of space for storage while exploring and maybe an on board crafting table. This should be an early game replacement to shulkers and enderchests

I also think the player should be able to "lead" boats with a lead, same way as animals

This also could be a good way to implement a new villager type in villages near oceans as well as a new building(s)

    • dock (could just be for looks in a village near the water or could have a functionality to do with the boats)
    • A repair area/construction area of sorts for boats (could have a new workstation for villagers that doubles as a way to make these new boats)

If a new workstation is added the villager could sell similar items to fisherman and exclusive maps showing locations of sunken pirate ships. I honestly think this should replace the fisherman villagers because they are quite useless (personal opinion)

This could be a new way to implement raids coming from the ocean

    • raiders could carry 1-3 pillagers or a pillager along with a ravager in the new boat that can carry more animals.
    • these could be a rare spawn type during raids that would add just a tad bit more difficulty to raids

I love the idea of larger boats, and I would love to see some non-sunken ships in Minecraft.

I do not agree with the guns because (even if Mojang did add guns) they would (realistically) be either too advanced to be made by hand, or too unpredictable to be useful in the game. On the other hand, cannons could be accurate enough to be useful in-game, and simple enough for the player to realistically make. The cannon (and their ammo) would probably cost even more iron than anvils though. Then again, TNT cannons can already be made, so craftable cannons are not as relevant to the game, unless they could only be used in ships.

I think it would be really cool if along with this you could have a big sea boss that you can fight with the cannons that can be loaded with cannonballs that have different potion effects

I don't think a bigger crafting grid will work. I'm thinking If we could make the parts separtly and putting it to get her on the 3*3 crafting grid

    My idea:

    1. We all will start with normal boats, Upon which we will add a new item/block called Platform. One unenchanted boat with a platform will be able to pull 25 blocks upon it

    2. Multiple boats, when put aside to each other should be able to join and make a bigger platform, which will be able to pull more blocks.

    3. In order to prevent bad animations, whenever a block is placed over a Platformer boat, it should hide the boat and make only the platform visible which shall be floating on water. The rest of the Boat shall go underwater where the boats should unite and form some kind of single big boat-like structure

    4. Steering: I have an idea for that, the simple thing is to introduce a new item called Steer. it should be connected to a platform and a ship can not have more than one steer.

    5. Enchanting : We shall be able to make enchantments , please note that some of these enchantments will be made over the Steer while some will be made on individual Platformers , the following are currently some of the potential Enchantments:

    a. Speed - (Steer enchantment)This one is pretty obvious and self explanotary, the only addition i would like to add is that it would have multiple levels

    b. Sailors Strength:(platform Enchantment) If you add this enchantment to your Platform, it will add the amount of blocks it can pull. This enchantment should have many multiple levels

    c. Thorns-(platform enchantment) If the ship update comes, in the night time, i expect to see some mobs spawning around the ships which shall try to climb up the ship and some potential sea monsters too, but the thorns enchantment will support you in fighting these monsters, the thorns enchantment will damage the mobs while trying to climb up the ship and on higher levels will also finish a considerable amount of them on its own, please note that this will only do damage to the mobs near the platforms and not those who are on the other parts of the ship, once they are on the ship you will have to fight them alone.

    FAQs:

    1. What happens if i add one more steer to the ship?
Ans: The answer is simple only one steer can actually STEER the boat and the rest of the steers won't, The steer that has the command of the boat shall have a glow similar to enchanted items and blocks.

    2. If the steer is connected to the platform how do i place it on the top of the ship?
You will just need to make an Redstone Connection from the steer to the commanding Platformer and then you can place the steer any where on the boat

    3. What if i place more blocks than the platformer limit?
The boat would simply not work, it wont pull the blocks anymore.

    4. Why would someone use the Sailors Strength enchantment if you can simply add up more platforms?
The thing is simple because of two reasons :
    a. Beauty: I dont think a ship with a tons of platform connected to it floating around it would really look beautiful, so a lots of pros will try to avoid that
    b. Spacing: The minecraft water bodies are not really like normal water bodies, they are not really big. Thats why , if people use sailor strength enchantment instead of adding more platforms, it will make the boat smaller and be able to go into narrower water bodies like minecraft rivers. If you have a very big platform to carry your ship, your ship will not pass, in cases you will need to get off the ship to clear small islands on your way.

I feel like the game could easily accommodate larger ships, even if they're not HUGE ships - They could  be something like 8-10 blocks long, 3 or so blocks wide, and a 2-3 blocks deep. It could come with a single triangular sail, and instead of a steering wheel, perhaps it could function with a simple rudder. Then they could easily hold a couple of players on a voyage, along with space for storage, a crafting table, et cetera. (Maybe the crafting tables/barrels/chest could be added just like saddlebags are added to horses, with a right-click?) This way, one could easily travel with two or three friends, and if you need more people, you can just make another ship.

A lot of people like the idea of having cannons on the ships too, but I don't think the developers are ever going to change their stance on firearms, period, for ratings reasons. However... Crossbow technology already exists in the game. Why not compromise and add ballistae? It could either be placed on the ground or on the boat, and when "ridden" it will act as a stationary turret. You load it like a standard crossbow (but instead with a big ol' bolt) and fire it when ready. I feel like this would easily be sufficient for the naval battles many are craving.

Maybe you could use these larger boats to go to a specific island biome with a storm around it that renders all other ways to get to it impossible (as in like a bermuda triangle). On that island you can find maybe a pirate village and a boss (I'm not really inspired on this one) like a giant crab for example. This could give some more depth (pun intended) to the oceans and really give a reason to explore not only the bottom of the sea but the islands.

I don’t like the idea for guns, but bigger ships with seats for rowing would be good. I’m tired of making Redstone contraptions to transfer horses across the sea!!!

Perhaps the sail could be an upgrade - You'd start by building a standard oar-powered longboat, which could in turn be upgraded by placing a sail (crafted separately) on it. That way, the ship could be modular; storage, power, and crafting alike would all be customizable and unique from ship to ship, without having tons of complex crafting recipes. DIfferent ships could have different advantages; for instance by adding chests for storage, there's less room for crew, or by adding sails, you're faster but are more at the mercy of the wind.

Speaking of wind... I feel like it could be simple to implement a basic wind system, where the wind "blows" in one of the four cardinal directions and varies day to day, like the weather. It'd function as a basic directional value, and when the ship is pointing in the direction of the wind, it simply gets a speed boost.

I agree with this idea, minus the flintlock pistol; but a tnt cannon could be cool.

I can see them maybe being like ancient greek/roman merchant vessels with oars and a single sail along with a storage mechanic for loot, however after reading some comments I agree that there should be a sailable variant of the shipwrecks to give them 'a place of origin' so to speak.

Could also use pillagers as pirates and have a tnt cannon or just fire arrows in volleys and use ramming and melee tactics; I can see some epic naval battles happening if this gets put in.

Maybe this could be an opportunity to add a new Illager band variant - The only caveat being, their name has to be a play on "villager," and have to do with pirates.

    Corsairager? Privatilliger? Buccilager?

At any rate, perhaps they'd have a chance to spawn by coastal villages in raids, or on the open sea when you're traveling just like how regular pillager bands spawn on land.

That could make sense - Especially if they had fish-like qualities. Maybe they could look kind of like sharks! They already have the gray skin.

    FUNCTION:
Instead of large boats, they can be straight up ships that 6 to 10 players can board at the same time, would have some extra storage (maybe the size of a double chest; which definitely drops the items like a chest when broken).
    CRAFTING:
To complicate the crafting, the game can require players to craft individual difficult parts first, and then combine them into a ship with a crafting table (or maybe some other table).
    BALANCING:
A ship of this caliber might be over powered, and hence would need at least 4 players to work together to steer.

I like this idea a lot but there could be more to it like a special type of sword such as the cutlass. The ships are a great idea but I think there would have to be a lot of work for the ships to be added as you would have to be able to walk on them, they have to sink if damaged by well lets say a ghast. Here is the example, A ghast gets out of your very large nether portal and attacks you damaging your ship sinking it. You'd think you'd get the ship back or some materials back from the ship if it sinks but I think if it got sunk it would sink to the ocean and generate a sunken ship. This sunken ship could be visited and would be the same wood material, the chests that are on the part of the ship that survived the attack would have the materials you left in that chest. Now it would also need a crafting recipe with the REGULAR crafting table. You would have to make parts of the ship to craft it. Now the parts would be the mast, the crows nest, the middle hull, the front hull, the back hull, and the captains quarters, These parts would be put together to make a ship. You have to place the ship in water and you can not get the ship back by breaking it. If the ship hit the land it would generate a sunken ship on the land it hit. Basically what I am saying is it is a great idea but it would take a lot of work to put into Minecraft.

A cutlass would be really cool. Maybe it could do less damage than a sword but could parry sword and axe attacks while crouching.

Maybe with other combat changes parries could occur when both players attack with the same timing, and the cutlass could have the same dps as the sword, but with faster weaker hits.

@Nova "inkycatz" Barlow  Hold on before we consider guns being out of the question. Just think about it. I don't want automatic assault rifles or submachine guns as those seem overpowering for a Minecraft fit theme. But A flintlock or just a muzzleloading rifle would fit Minecraft style. This rifle could be made out of copper ore and iron.  The bullets could be made out of gunpowder and iron nuggets. A drawback to this type of weapon though is it could be that it takes a while to reload (as it only shoots one bullet at a time before reloading as in a muzzle reloading rifle) and its durability is not that good but does serious damage.

@DeadlyVenom419 I think that the developers' opposition to firearms is mostly out of ratings concerns, not being able to reconcile it with Minecraft's theme - If they added firearms, it'd technically have to be rated higher, and would affect how they sell it.

I think that being able to build upon the bot would be better then crafting one. For example say you have 5 boats and you are able to place planks in true boats; which would connect as if it were being built as one. Then you could create a rudder with maybe some bamboo and string. The string is for steering. Then you could link up a red stone source to a steering wheel. The steering wheel would control the whole boat. The boat would be like a moving house made by the players, but depending on the number of boats on the bottom would determine how many blocks the player could use to build onto their ship. Then maybe we could use banners as a way of making sails for the ship. On the ship you would be able to place relatively anything depending on how many boats there are at the bottom to support the blocks.

They should do pirate ships where you need to get a workshop and collect all sorts of blueprints and materials, and there should be seafaring pirates trying to kill you. Then, if your ship gets damaged, you must bring it to your workshop (which also could serve as a garage?) to get it fixed. There should also be pirate villages with pirates who try to kill you if you steal their resources.
