In your idea, how would lava as a fuel source change?  Lava is my fuel of choice, as it’s basically free and can smelt a lot of items.  It almost sounds like you are suggesting that it also smelt items quickly, which would make it an ultimate fuel.  If so, I approve.  After all, it does have the downside of needing to be collected in buckets and not stacking.

@ClayGoddessSari ......exactly what I was thinking. On every point you mentioned, it's like you read my mind. Lava would burn longest and fastest, but would be the least convenient to use.

This idea hasn't gotten any attention in about six months, and I'd like to get some fresh feedback on it ^^

Well, this is a interesting concept to take in and would give the game a change that would actually change how early game is, (Cooked Porkchop, Steak (why is it call Cooked Beef? It used to be called Steak.), etc.) It would make people use the type of fuel they want for the process. And, honestly, I would dig this if it was added....... Now if they allowed us to smelt Cobble in blast furnaces... and cut wood in the stone cutter.

I would love this! I really love the look of furnaces when they're lit up, so I'd really enjoy a feul that would burn suuuuper long and slow, to keep that glow going longer.
