Minecraft's armor crafting system could benefit from a progression overhaul that reuses initial armors and introduces logical upgrades. This proposal outlines new armor types and a refined progression system:
- Leather: Unchanged;
- Chainmail: Two variants: unchanged, but now crafted using chains, and an upgraded version reinforced with leather (Reinforced Leather);
- Iron: Two variants: standard iron (unchanged) and metallic, made by reinforced leather with iron PLATES;
- Bronze (Optional): A mid-tier armor between iron and diamond, created by alloying iron and copper, with the iron armor (similar to netherite);
- Gold and Diamond: Replaced by "gilded iron" (iron plated with gold) and "reinforced metallic" (metallic reinforced with diamond shards);
- Netherite: "Unchanged" - with new "diamond" armor.
PROGRESSIONS:
- Leather → Reinforced Leather → Metallic → Reinforced Metallic → Netherite
- Chainmail → Reinforced Leather
- *Standard Iron → Bronze
- Standard Iron → Gilded Iron
Pros:
- Introduces logical upgrades and two (or tree) new armor types;
- Reintegrates underused materials like leather set;
- Encourages emotional attachment to armors through progressive upgrades.
Cons:
- Slows speed-runs due to the expanded crafting system;
- Alters long-standing mechanics, possibly alienating veteran players;
- Adds complexity.
This system enhances gameplay by promoting material diversity and creating meaningful armor progression without introducing new ores. The community’s support could help bring this idea to Mojang’s attention.
