This is the worst idea made in the whole decade of minecraft. I am an bedrock player that played bedrock for 3 years, and I don't want this to be added to the game
    1. It sucks for people who want to play on peaceful becouse of mobs, Peaceful is easy enough, we don't need keep inventory
2.Keep inventory is already an option, it is a cheat, so peaceful will ether be without achivments which is bad, or with them which is bad too
3.The core of the game is going to dissapear for people who play on those difficulties, making them move to Normal which they are proabably not ready for.

in the end the idea is good, but bad at the same time, if it gets implimented it has to be optional and turned off by default. end

I like that it won't be considered a cheat, but think it should be a toggleable option for world generation instead of forced for those difficulties.
I would also like to see some sort of middle ground option where you keep your tools and armour but drop all your other items. This would still punish you for dying in a cave or something when you're holding treasure, but not wipe out the hard work required to get good tools in the midgame. Another way of doing this would be keeping your hotbar and armour, while losing the rest of your inventory. Just something to make keep inventory not feel too powerful.

make a toggle, for all difficulties, including hardcore, that you can set at world creation

Wouldn't it be better to instead make KeepInventory not a cheat option that can be toggled for any difficulty?
Also, there's a mod called Gravestones which put all your items in a gravestone where you died, allowing your items to not despawn. This can be combined with an easier to access recovery compass that will show you the locations of your gravestones.

    - Having some form of Keep Inventory set as default would be nice, but not locking it is probably a good idea so people can still customize their experience

    - Maybe experiment around with the punishment for death a little? I find that Keep Inventory is sometimes a little too easy, but don't really want to loose my full inventory every time I die, I'd love more variation here. (For example, perhaps there could be an only exp lost on death version, and another where you only keep tools and armor, as well as the full inventory loss and no loss that are currently in the game.)

    - If you're going to do this, maybe take Keep Inventory out of the "cheats" section? It might encourage more people to use it when they're having trouble if there is less of a negative connotation around using it

make it optional and remove it from the cheats section

I don't know; if you have keep inventory on by default, then it would feel like death has no consequence, especially if you keep your level as well, even at the easier difficulties. It's fine if you want to make keep inventory not a cheat, but don't force it on by default, that would take away the vanilla experience.

There are major problems with having keep inv on by default and not explicitly giving them a way to disable that feature. Not to mention the impact this change will have on the speed running community which utilizes the differences between normal and easy to speed run the game. I could dive deep into the problems but I believe everyone else on this forum will have already done so.

    Solutions:
Solution 1: (least effort) make it so easy mode keep inv is off and peaceful mode keep inv is on. This wont affect the SR community at all as a run is invalid if swapped to peaceful. It will still make easy more challenging for players. And it makes a lot of sense that peaceful mode the mode with 0 hostile mobs also has 0 consequences if a player dies.
Solution 2: Add an in-between for easy and normal where easy would still be keep inv but the in-between would have the current "easy mode" rules. Doing this would also open avenues for an Ultra hard mode or an in-between for Normal and Hard mode which could be exciting and add new extreme challenges to the game without moding (similar to terraria's for the worthy, ect.)
Solution 3: On easy instead of it being a fully fledged keep inv, instead replace that with a keep hotbar or keep XP. Something less powerful than literally 0 loss. I personally still don't love this solution but I could see how the community more broadly would still entertain this idea. The MCSR scene would definitely undergo some decent changes but nothing it can't handle.

It is a great concept and would be fun to have as an ability to toggle if you are considering keep inventory less as a "Cheat" and more as a feature to help new players in playing Minecraft, though, it may change the way we perceive the "Authentic Survival Experience." Firstly, a conflict that may occur later on if you end up implementing it "as is" or similar to how it is in the previews right now would be further increasing the difficulty spike from Peaceful or Easy to Normal and eventually Hard and Hardcore. Also, it takes away an experience that feels fundamental to every player who experiences survival Minecraft for the first time, the impact of the "You Died" screen. The experience of losing all of your items is something that every player should experience at some point, it is a character builder. When you get blown up by a creeper as you were admiring the dirt hut you built and lose all of your stuff, its like getting knocked down and it teaches the player to grow, to get back up even in the face of hardship (losing all of your items) so that when something harder to deal with comes (Losing your Hardcore world) you aren't as severely affected. When it comes to getting achievements, it does not feel as rewarding getting them with keep inventory on in easier modes than having it off. For example, if you were learning how to ride a bike, it feels more rewarding to be able to learn without the need for training wheels though with will do all the same. Hope this Helps :)

I believe that instead of it automatically being enabled when you are on easy/peaceful, it should just be a setting in the advanced section. Therefore, it isn't a cheat but it isn't forced onto players. But if you enable easy mode it will turn on and you have to manually turn it off.

I think you don't have to change something that was already working and was good. Yes, keep inventory is still a cheat, maybe just move it from cheats section on easier difficulty levels so it won't turn off achievements.

I think keep inventory is not a bad idea for peaceful difficulty, but for easy I think is better just save only exp points, and not your loot. Also you can just make pop-up window for easy difficulty to turn on keep inventory if someone dies a lot. It also would be grate if you make a separate game rule for saving exp points.

    Why not try this :

Easy mode: keep inventory on but player loses their exp and drops vanilla amount in ground on death.

Normal mode : players drops everything besides equipment such as armour weapons and shieldon death.

Hard mode : everything drops on death.

A feature in advance settings where players could turn off the described features if they want .

    i am terrible at minecraft.

normal is too hard for me, so i play on easy. keepinventory would make all exploration feel pointless and boring, leaving a gap in difficulty settings leaving a lot of players out of the game, including me.

I think it would be better to make a prompt that pops up when selecting easy or peaceful which asks if you want keep inventory and explains what it does, if you want it on then it turns off achievements. because you don't want a new player to be thinking that the game is pointless because there are no repercussions for dying.

I don't think keepinventory should be forced onto peaceful and easy players, but i do think the option should be more accessible to new players, like prompting the player to choose between keepinventory on and off.

Don't make it the default option, but easily available.

KeepInventory as default for new people will encourage cheese strategies such as:

    -Death for fast travel

-Jump into unwinnable fights, knowing they can wear down a group of enemies by just dying over and over.

-Be less considerate with the enviroment.

Assuming new people eventually will move to normal mode, either for their own progression or because the majority of SMPs are on normal, this can become a rough transition.

I disagree with the changes. I'm not a new player by any means (I've played this game since 1.14), but my combat skills still leave much to be desired. Not everyone is immediately great at Minecraft combat, but a LOT of players want to use the features of the higher difficulty levels. Zombifying villagers, for instance. If you want the 100% chance, which is pretty much required for any villager system, you need to turn on Hard mode. But if I played on Hard mode, I would die constantly from how much damage the mobs are dealing. If the Minecraft team wishes to differentiate the game modes' experience more, I think a good idea would be to add a fifth "Custom" option which allows the player to pick and choose which settings they want.

So making easy difficulties easier or hard difficulties harder is fine in of it self, the only problem I have is the way this is going about it. Keep Inventory is a setting that removes any and all risk from any difficulty, so I personally don't think it should be something that is automatically turned on, rather if you wanted to make the beginner experience easier using Keep Inventory, it should be by moving the toggle to the main world creation page and increasing it's exposure. I also think keeping Keep Inventory as a "cheat" would be good, just instead of having a turn on the cheat toggle it gives a pop-up instead letting you know the turning this on disables achievements. This way it's more obvious for first time players or anyone wanting a easier playing experience that such a setting exists.

While this is great, I think it would be better if the keep inventory option wouldn't be considered a cheat  regardless of the difficulty, just like in java.

I personally have never been happy with keepInventory. It needs more granularity. Dying should be punishing IMO, but losing everything can feel too harsh. There should be toggles for keepXP, keepAll, keepHotbar, keepInventory (without Hotbar). With those four toggles you can tailor it to your linking.

While I think that losing your items is part of the Minecraft experience, I agree that for accessibility reasons it would be smart to have keep inventory on.

Java player here. To answer the idea of `it wouldn't feel like Minecraft anymore`: people play this game for a lot of reasons. This lost inventory mecanic is only for people who play for the survival aspect of it. Personally I enjoy building and gathering/exploring. To me this is a chill game and the prospect of losing half of my progress to a bad fall makes things more stressful. Then if you're lucky you can spend five minutes racing an arbitrary timer to get your stuff back. I usually play in easy and activate keepInventory. I understand that this is not for everyone, but in my opinion most players who pick the easy difficulty do not really care about the survival aspect as much (or are making more mistakes / would get frustrated by losing their progress this often). IMO this makes perfect sense for an easy mode. It's not even the default difficulty so this does not impact anything about "the minecraft experience".
