    This needs to be optional

I don't mind this as I don't play Bedrock or Peaceful/Easy but Keep Inventory is very much a cheat so you should not be able to earn achievements. It should not be built into the difficulty and should instead be a toggleable feature for just Peaceful and Easy Difficulty.

This should be OPTIONAL. Put the option just below the peaceful/easy buttons or split the buttons for peaceful / keep inventory  and easy / keep inventory.   So you can click one side of the button to be normal and the other to be  "easier"

This just is one of several changes that have been made in the past that go out of their way to make existing features significantly more inconvenient than they need to be, this will force players that don't want to use keep inventory to at best disable it manually at world creation, and at worst have no option of disabling it without moving to a higher difficulty.

This was done with the custom world settings when you removed them and replaced them with the JSON file, which is infinitely more inconvenient than the in game page that already existed. It was done with snapshots when they were replaced with experiments, making them impossible to use in pre existing worlds. And it was recently done with the spawn chunks, when they were lowered from 16 chunks to just 2, with the option to adjust them being added as a gamerule, meaning anybody that liked the old spawn chunks has to manually adjust them ta world creation every time they start a world.

Mojang, please stop replacing existing features with worse versions of themselves

they should make it not a cheat but have it as a button or toggle

This is an example of how to incorrectly incorporate a feature.

This will take away player autonomy by removing the choice to have KeepInv on/off.

A better way to do this would be simply to have a "Keep Inventory" button very plainly and obviously next to the Generate World button when creating a new world.

Removing Keep Inventory from being considered a cheat however IS at least is a good move. I like this change. The only real resource that is permanently lost through losing your items is TIME as everything in this game is technically infinite anyways.

Don't force KeepInventory onto those that are on lower difficulties. Make it a separate option that changes things so it's no longer a cheat.

add an option to turn it off

I think the best option is too just make it so keep inventory isnt considered a cheat so you can still earn achievements without the hassle of getting all of your items back.

I do not like this change at all. One of my favorite things about bedrock edition vs java is that on bedrock having achievements on actually means something, but making keep inventory not count as cheating takes all that verification away. With or without this change, I think that there should be a way to tell what the lowest difficulty has been for that world. For example if it is currently on Normal but at one point it was on easy then at the top of the world settings it would say "this world has been on easy." This would add satisfaction for players challenging themselves with harder difficulties, especially since peaceful is basically cheating as is.

I believe that yes, it'd be a great idea to add keep inventory, but I also believe that it'd be nice to be able to toggle it without having to lose achievements in peaceful or easy mode. I think that adding more difficult aspects in hard mode to level this out would be a good change, or making easy mode lose not none, but only some items just to make things a bit more difficult than peaceful, though that could also be changed. :)

Please god no; Minecraft is already far too easy compared to what it once was, Minecraft without losing items isn't Minecraft anymore, "don't dig straight down", "watch out for creepers", "don't get lost" all useless statements with this enabled; this would steal the essence of the spirit of starting to play Minecraft, even on peaceful, it's a world to explore, dangerous like any other, peaceful just makes it so you don't starve (farming can take a bit to figure out), and you don't have monsters hunting you, I think in the long run it would reduce player engagement, especially as people who want a relaxed experience, but want the Minecraft experience often play on Easy, and they might not notice Keep Inventory is on, or know how to turn it off, and will lose interest. Everyone who wants keep inventory can already figure out how to use it. I also think that it should not have achievements, if you want achievements you should have to achieve them, they should take effort, keepinventory makes the effort to get them otherwise meaningless

I speak for everyone when I say this should be optional upon world creation, independent of the difficulty, so that you can still have the exact same experience that you had before this change.

Call me old, but keepinventory has always been considered a cheat. I do not say this to disregard players who use it (I often do aswell) but it being tied to difficulty only make sense looking at it halfway.

I do not want to be the person to say Minecraft is the same as Terraria, but the way their "keep inventory" is tied to a character rather than the world makes it so players can streamline the experience how they want more easily. Want a tougher fight? up the difficulty! Enjoy the increased penalty on death by dropping items? There's your setting! Put on the pressure with only one life? We call that Hardcore.

Different gaming styles give different experiences, and a game like minecraft thrives on customization!

I started by calling Keepinventory a cheat. Maybe it's time to look at what we class this setting (and others?) as, similar to if we want a superflat/terrained world, or how tough we want our monsters!

    - Theres the issue with achievements too, but I think that depends on how you see it. Is keepinventory a legit way to play the game and thus earn them? Is easy difficulty as much an acceptable way to earn a wither kill as someone playing hardcore and using a safe strat like end fountain? I struggle to see the difference in rights for the shiny, digital, gold star.

Edit: Correct me, if this is wrong(Java player), but are the achievements not similar to the advancements? Which in the early part of the game, serves as guidance? Opening inventory and making a workbench. It makes little sense to turn those off simply because of a cheat setting, and you HAVE done the action!

With how weirdly difficult bedrock gets because of lag and whatnot, and the huge ammount of unfair deaths that happen, this (at least in bedrock) should extend to even normal difficulty. On top of that, I really don't think that Keep Inventory should be considered a cheat, considering pacific difficulty takes basically all risks away from the game not stopping achievments from being made, and your stuff dropping on death (specially on bedrock where it not only drops, but flies away obnoxiously far) it's nothing but an annoyance.

I don't think this is a good idea. Even if the player has the ability to disable it, it shouldn't be the "default" for peaceful and easy mode. Some players like playing in easy and peaceful mode, and may enjoy the challenges of not dying and trying to keep their inventory.

I think that keep inventory should be an option in the world creation menu, instead of being a cheat, but I think forcing or even encouraging players on easy and peaceful to keep inventory on would remove their agency to play the game they want. It would go against Minecraft as a concept. (I don't mean to sound pretentious, I just think that it would be an overstep to decide for/convince the player to do something. It takes a little bit away from the sandbox and player freedom part of the game.)

I actually double-checked when writing this comment, and was really surprised that it wasn't an option in world creation, so if Mojang does anything, just make it an option (default: off) in world creation.

I think that this is a bad idea and should be considered for a completely different approach (Without the Default Keep inventory on for peaceful and easy mode)

Like putting that settings in "game" tab instead of the other tab for example so that it could still be changed independently of difficulty afterwards without the use of NBT editor.

For the "achievement" then you should either figure it out or just reverse the decision completely to back on how it works before this update.

Losing all your items in Minecraft, even if its on easy or peaceful difficulty is a core game mechanic. The best option to implement it is to have Keep Inventory not disable advancements so that if someone wants to play on easy or peaceful, they can still enable Keep Inventory without disabling advancements. Since the idea behind this is that it helps new players get into the game easier, just simply change the GUI a little so that Keep Inventory is easy to find and new players won't miss the option when creating a world.

Please do not force options onto anyone. By default this could be a good change for newer players who don't understand all the different game rules but it would be great if the option to turn it off on these difficulties was also introduced

I feel like Keep Inventory should be on by default for ONLY Peaceful and NOT Easy.
Peaceful has always been sorta the odd one out among the 4 main difficulties due to changes like No hostile mobs spawns, no hunger, etc. Making keep inventory on by default for peaceful would be a nice change and not too drastic unlike doing so for easy. Easy to me has always been grouped in with Normal & Hard, so it doesn't feel right for keep inventory to be on with Easy Difficulty.

And of course, you should be able to toggle keep inventory on and off at any time without needing to use commands, probably best as a new button in the pause menu.

I think this is not the correct way to make this change or ease your way into the change. If you are wanting players to be able to easily keep this without changing the whole aspect of the difficulty, I think adding the keep inventory switch to the difficulty selection is a better choice. This will make the option be right in front of the players faces and those who want it on can turn it on and the rest can keep it off. That way it won't affect those who are negative to this change.

I feel that customizability is important here. It’s okay to have default settings, but let us set the boundaries if we so desire (even if it means that changing away from the default settings will disable achievements).

If we want “keepInventory” to apply all the time or not at all, let us do that. If we want to apply “keepInventory” up to/below a certain difficulty, let us do that. Again, you (Mojang) can decide to disable achievements if we decide to customize this. All up to you.

I’m all for adding difficulty-based rules to give new life & meaning to Difficulty Settings in Minecraft. But, it shouldn’t be hardcoded into every player’s experience. Have it be world-based, where specific worlds follow specific rules set upon world creation (and can only be changed with “/gamerule” or on the “Edit World” screen).

After that, we can feel free to debate whether specific rules BY DEFAULT should apply up to/below a certain difficulty or not. Such a debate would be much less forceful upon the community.

I think the inventory/difficulty system should work like this:

Peaceful: Full inventory and xp is kept.

Easy: Full inventory is kept, no xp.

Normal: Only tools and armor are kept.

    Hard: Lose everything on death.

This system is more gradual in difficulty, and as well I think there should be additional difficulty settings that allow you to customize more, like maybe you want the classic Minecraft experience, without harder mobs, go to your difficulty settings and change the inventory setting from normal to hard, but keep the world difficulty on normal. The more complex difficulty settings should be under a tab that says like "advanced difficulty settings" as to not confuse new players with intricate difficulty settings.

please do not force this change on easy-peaceful players, as many other people have suggested this should just be an option when creating a world instead of in the cheats. while i believe keep inventory is a cheat personally, if this change does happen it should not be forced on when this is already and option you can pick in cheats.

I personally think that, to help new players, there should be an option next to the gamemode that says "Keep Inventory" and also doesn't disclose it as a cheat. However, it's still an option and is clear for those who want to enable it and those who want it disabled. I think this is a happy medium between defaulting to KI on peaceful and easy, like in the new preview, and not allowing keep inventory, like in the regular game right now. Anyway, I hope this feedback helps!

I truly believe this will ruin the game for the kids you're trying to coddle.

If Little Timmy age 6 turns down the difficulty and that enables KeepInventory, you just ruined the game for him. At first it's gonna feel great cause he doesn't have to worry about anything. But then what? What motivating factor does the game have now? You can say it's a sandbox, but the core game has built-in motivators for a reason. Now for Little Timmy every cave expedition will be about as exciting as grocery shopping because it doesn't matter what happens, he's fine. Every time will be the same, he just gets ore and goes back, either on foot or via respawn. Wither, Ender Dragon, Warden, they all go from memorable cool moments to bland whatever because you can just keep respawning at no cost and eventually win. Why build cool landmarks in your world when you can just jump off a cliff and respawn for free whenever you get lost? Heck, now you only have to travel one way and you can instantly blink back via tactically dying. The game turns into mush.

Worst of all, Timmy won't turn the difficulty back up. Once you've gained a certain convenience it's really hard to deprive yourself of it, even for an aware adult, let alone a kid who probably can't even identify the issue. From Timmy's perspective, after playing with KeepInventory on for a while, he'll conclude that this game is boring and stop playing. You'd be robbing Timmy of a game he might otherwise love. Please do not implement this.

You talked about wanting to differentiate the difficulty modes and I have an idea for that. Instead of mob damage being different, the spawn rate of mobs increases with the difficulty. Easy would be how they spawn now. Normal would have increased spawns and sight radius, and hard increases it further. I want hard mode to be like that one 1.16 snapshot where the Ghasts spawned more frequently than intended. That was one of my favorite moments in Minecraft. Any abilities restricted to hard mode would be given in any difficulty mode. As for the Keep Inventory for easy mode, as much as I love using it, I don't think it should be forced on players. If you're worried about item loss scaring off new players, just give an alert that it's there for them when they select "Create New World." They should be able to have the alert not pop up for them in the future. This is a better solution, I think.
