This should definitely be optional as some players will prefer to not have keep inventory on.

i think you should make it so that there is a option below the difficulty changer and a lock button or a indicator to tell if someone used i or not to make sure nobody can lie. Also if you go easy mode you should loose your exp so less is at stake but its still pretty valuable (but only on easy).

TLDR: Add it as a setting to the main page of world creation, don’t make it a part of easy mode as it is different gameplay change then difficulty.

As someone who went from playing with keep inventory on to with it off, it changes the gameplay a lot. Risks lose value, and preparation is unnecessary. In easy mode, defeating a nether fortress should be easier than hard mode (duh), but without the risk of losing stuff you can just head in carelessly over and over and not get punished. This trivializes the survival aspect. Running out of food? Just die, you keep your EXP! It goes against the core of a survival game, no matter what difficulty setting it is on. What about people who want to have an easy experience, but still want their actions to have consequences? Sometimes I put the game on easy, so the mobs aren’t as annoying. But when I mess around with my friends in that world, or they mess with me, I still want players to drop inventory so when they steal my stuff, I can get it back. With Keep inventory, all I can do is send them home faster, still with my diamonds. Inventory and difficulty change the game in different ways. They should NOT be tied to each other.

Keep inventory is the best and probably the most fun and useful cheat. Especially for casual or younger players. But it is cheating. It should be easy to turn on and easy to find for those who want it, and not forced on those who simply want an easier experience but with the same challenge of repercussions.

    please make it toggleable

This is a good concept, and I like it, but it will need some tweaking. For example, maybe the keep inventory toggle could just not be considered a cheat when the difficulty is set to easy or peaceful? That way, people can still play on peaceful mode and turn off keep inventory if they want to. It would still be on by default, but it could be turned off before world creation.

I personally Think When you create an Easy/Peaceful mode world it Should only have keep inventory turned on by DEFAULT, it should not be forced.

Imo , "keep inventory" is a good QOL feature .
I used it a lot back in 2015 , even on Hard difficulty .

Just don't bound it to a specific difficulty !

Make a separate button for it , right under "difficulty" button .
And make it change its default state depending on the state of the "difficulty" button .
That way , players will be stimulated to use "keep inventory" as default option , but at the same time they will have the option to opt-out of using it when playing on Peaceful/Easy difficulty .

However , it is also a good idea to disallow gaining of achievements when "keep inventory" is enabled on Normal and Hard difficulties .

I think the keep inventory should be taken off of the cheats menu for the casual players who still want to fight tougher enemies without the risk of being sent back to square one. Enchantment levels remaining after death seems like a good call for lower difficulties, but again, it could be an option to turn off/on for all players too.

    This is a bad change.

Keep inventory is a cheat and it always has been. So I am personally against this idea.

I don't hate the idea but I still feel like saying "what if I want to play easy but with keep inventory off" maybe keep inventory could be right below the difficulty settings and no longer be considered a "cheat" or maybe only be considered a cheat on hard mode.

I think they should make the keep inventory on by default when someone selects easy or peaceful difficulty, but if someone doesn't want them, they can just go and disable them from the settings.

    The other settings work well.

I personally think it's not a necessary change.

It should be mora of an suggestion when you create a world, something like a pop-up that says "Hey, you can keep your stuff when you die woud you like that?" and have a button to do so easily (maybe do this only when selecting easy or peaceful)

It still should be considered a cheat and the pop-up would say so

    It is still a cheat

Instead of turning Keep Inventory on, I would suggest a gravestone based system (your items are stored in a gravestone after death).

Firstly it doesnt feel as much as a "Cheat" as Keep Inventory, but solves the problem of loosing all your stuff.

With a system like this the stress about loosing all your items in 5 minutes is gone, while it not being a free tp to your respawnpoint.

It also is a good middleground of both options.

Im also sugggesting this system should be gated behind a gamerule, in order to give the player all options they want. The gravestone should also be an entity instead of a block, so no blocks are gated behind a gamerule. The gravestone can be anything (a body, a little orb,...).

Noo... i dont think thats a good idea. Being afraid to loose your stuff is such a core mechanic to minecraft. But i get why its being done. Some people dont like stress, which is fine, but then taking keep inventory out of the Cheats menu is the better option IMO. I

dk man. Yall are the experts. I just think it was ok the way it was.

i feel that keep inventory should still be considered a cheat but instead introduce a new system that makes it so you lose a percentage of your inventory, as i feel it would be easier for new players to understand that normal and hard are not going to allow you to keep all of your stuff since you're already shown that you will keep some of your items.

Keep inventory being no longer a cheat is pretty good specially for newer players, but I believe making it a seperate option rather than having be naturally on in easy and peaceful mode is not the best idea, make it an option that apears more noticable in the creating world menu (next to difficulty and cheats and etc)

    Thank you

I think Peaceful mode could have the normal, Keep Inventory On. The Easy mode could keep only tools and armor, along with experience. Normal and Hardcore would have no changes.

With this change, the Keep Inventory toggle would have the options: Full, Equipment, and None.

I think that keep inventory on should be a default setting for peaceful mode as a way of introduction to the game. However easy mode should left untouched, cause risk is another way to make the game feel more interesting and not everyone wants to fight mobs that deal double the hp

I think this is a bad idea to force this on players, full stop. Keep it toggleable.

There really needs to be a "difficulty per player" setting

I love playing with my little cousins, but I like hardmode, and to lose my items on death. Make keep inventory PER PLAYER so we can play with our kids easier. Possibly make it so hostile mobs target players on hard mode more than those on easy, so they can still enjoy the game with people better thanthem

I think this is a great change because not everyone has played Minecraft since the beginning and for many people it is their first real game and if you want your items to drop you could just change to normal or hard. In my opinion this is great change and I am exited to see Minecraft improve with more changes like this.

I believe it should be a toggle that can be switched on or off, regardless of the difficulty. I don’t mind if it’s not considered a cheat, especially since many people use it anyway. I tend to use it because it’s frustrating to chase down items I’ve lost thousands of blocks away. Separating XP and inventory into different toggles could also be a good idea, as not losing experience upon death is arguably more disruptive than simply keeping your items.

I love this direction. To be honest, the difficulties are not different enough in my opinion, so I like this. But now please also add something for the hard difficulty to make it also have an interesting mechanic that effects the player. Maby something like having less hunger bars Or just merge hardcore and hard difficulty.

Honestly I feel like this takes away from Minecraft's most important aspect: being a sandbox game. Every world has a degree of customizability available to the player so they can play the game in the way that is the most fun for them. Removing this takes away that agency from the player when I believe there is a better alternative that still allows everyone to play the game with their own style. Simply remove Keep Inventory as a cheat, and instead have it as a toggle-able option upon world creation. This way players get to keep the customizability of Minecraft, while still being able to earn achievements, and nothing is forced on anyone.
