I think the Creaking is to weak, it inflicts less damage than a Zombie and it have a lower attack rate. it exist multiple possiblility to make the Creaking a real danger :

    • Increase the damage
    • Increase the speed
    • Increase the attack rate
    • Closer it is the heart, more damage it inflicts

One problem of the Crecking is when it does a damage you return and it have the time tu hit you just one time and you have the time to heal you.

If the Creaking is more dangerous it also create more fear, because if you do a error it can cause the death.

And for the speed the concept of the mob is to not stop to watch it so if he go so slow you have just to run and he can't reach you.

every time you hit the creaking mob will increase the time to breaking the creaking heart from that specific creaking mob.

I often make Minecraft vids, and horror stuff like Warden is very popular with kids/adults, as they create reactions and tense adventures! I'm thankful that Mojang adds more, but I feel the Creaking really missed the mark.

I love the SCP-like immortality. But the design of the mob/biome can be more menacing, right now the art direction feels uninspired like some low-rated mod. Add some fog, black mud. The mob damage is too low. But more importantly, there's no reason to go here at night. There's only decor blocks that you can simply get in the day.

T.Chambers have Maces, Deep Dark has the bad Swift Sneak (but there's still a unique reward). This "challenge" however can be easily stopped with a bed. Why would I go here at night? There's a massive game design issue that needs to be fixed here. Mojang wanted new features to integrate with existing ones, but this addition is somehow doing the opposite.

Maybe at night, enchanted twigs can spawn for players to make a wand, hookshot, or jewelry? This creates a tangible reward that can help with exploration, building etc like extended range. Maybe it also require copper and amethyst, which makes new features coexist with old ones? This is how we create meaningful additions that integrate with existing content.

I'm worried that with these small drops, end update will never happen. This biome fits perfectly there, and mining enderite can easily be a reward for this challenge.

Lastly, the noisy particles for the heart can be toned down.

The creaking's connection to the heart doesn't show below decreased particle levels. Something to note.

The Creaking should do like 7.5 hearts (15 hp) of damage and be like, 3-5x faster than it currently is. That would make it a lot scarier, akin to Weeping Angels and SCP-173. Right now the only threat it has is if you get surrounded by like 8 of them, and even then they're not hard to deal with, even with an empty inventory. I'd also like to see the biome covered in thick black fog with smokey particles everywhere.

I feel like it needs to drop something that is needed for something in the future.

Great mob and great idea. Behavior-wise, it is already great as is, the only thing I would maybe add is different type of behavior/difficulty based on the moon phase. For example, the "fuller" the moon is, the faster, harder-hitting and further away from it's heart a creaking can be.

Also, more variants would be very good, the mob itself is already asymmetrical, why make them all look the same? Make some "tilt" to the other side (their necks), make some have one missing limb, or one extra, some can have two, even three heads, or no head and eyes on their torso. Some can have shorter legs, but longer heads and torsos. They are a weird looking mob already, why not make them weirder and more variable.

Another cool thing would be that during the day, instead of despawning, they just deactivate and freeze in place with their eyes dimmer. Can't wait to see how you change and hopefully improve the creaking even further. Ly Mojang <3

I have an idea for a crafting use for the creaking heart, the Color detector block can work similar to the observer but instead of detecting block state changes it detects a blocks color, an example is concrete blocks, there are 16 color variations of the block which can match the 16 signal strengths that redstone blocks can emit, an example of this is white can emit a signal of 1 and black can emit a signal of 16 or vice versa, the redstone signal that is emitted from the color detector is continuous signal like a lever switched to the on position.

It should Drop a magic weapon/component, since it looks very eldritch-esc

love the idea of the creaking so far. i think little changes like it closing its eyes after a short time of being looked at or just doing a little more damage would go along way for its scariness.
this mob has a lot of potential for some "did i just see something" type moments and thats why i think the eye closing would compliment it greatly.

I think the creaking is intriguing and could have some interesting uses. I like that its mechanics are so different from other mobs.

It would be great if there was a way to have it persist in the daytime. Maybe by naming the mob or stripping the creaking heart (like stripping a log)?

In lieu of having the mob drop something, maybe let the creaking heart drop something when mined with fortune?

I feel like the mob needs some other use, whether that be another use for the creaking heart or another drop. I like the idea of a redstone component that outputs a signal when looked at (maybe the strength decreases as the player gets farther away). Or maybe a drop that uses the creaking’s particle effects to point toward something else.

Creaking needs to do more damage, maybe like 3-5 hearts based on difficulty.

I see a lot of comments that it should do more damage, but I disagree. I think it should take the Weeping Angel inspiration further and just move really really fast, so there's no way to avoid the damage in single player unless you can get just the right angle to look at it while mining the Heart, and the damage would be minimal but build up fast.

creaking should deal more damage, currently it can't do anything to a player wearing netherite armor

Remove the spawn smoke when they spawn it takes away from the creepiness, its like oh look there it is.

I think it should deal more damage even with nothing on its only 1 heart. maybe do like 5 or 6 hearts

I also think when you look at it the eyes should close and maybe there's a rare chance you catch it looking at you as if its trying to blend in.

I would like it if when you silk touch the creaking heart, it becomes freindly to players, and hostile to hostile mobs. This would give more of a purpose to the mob. Other than that, great feature!

    Ominous Creaking Heart:

The Bad Omen effect should make the Creaking Heart enter Ominous Mode. Ominous Creaking Hearts should cause the Creaking Heart's particle effect to harm the player every few seconds like a Guardian beam. With a few of these Hearts slowly harming the player, it would make the Pale Gardens more of a challenge for players who choose to drink Ominous Bottles. Bad Omen could alternatively spawn more difficult Creaking mobs with additional attacks or more damage. There could be a reward for taking on this challenge, but I'm not sure how that could be implemented.

    Hello,

After watching a video about creaking and reading some information on the internet, the first thing I noticed was that the eyes of the Creaking probably made it too visible.
From what I've read, Creaking's eyes can go dark beyond 32 blocks but illuminate below that distance.

The idea is to add a condition for the Creaking eyes to turn off or be able to close them.
If the player starts looking in the direction of the Creaking, it gradually closes or turns off its eyes, just long enough for the player to turn and look at it for a few seconds/milliseconds (but not too long).
If the player is not looking at it then its eyes are open/glowing again.

This will give a more natural camouflage and the player must stay focused to not lose attention on him, moreover, the player can potentially lose sight of it and take a few more seconds to search for him.
This time having to search a little more often for this creature will be enough to scare the player a little more with the combination of the sound and visual ambiance of the biome.

However, its eyes will remain open/shining at very close range, which will increase the tension on the player who will no longer feel just observed but in imminent danger, the creature being ready to attack at the slightest opportunity. At this distance camouflage is no longer useful and it is more interesting for the creature to intimidate the player.

Now imagine combining this idea with ambient fog in this biome.

A berserker mode for the Creaking

When the heart is destroyed, the Creaking should enter a berserker mode for three seconds, during which time it will attack the player with greater speed and ignore if you are watching it

After three seconds it will die

The creaking should do far more damage, especially in higher difficulties. 3 damage in hard mode when skeletons do up to 8 damage and zombies do 4 in hard mode, is far too little. Most players are likely going to be in full iron armour or even more when they first find the biome, so it feels like the damage should be closer to around 10 in hard.

Creakings that are spawned from player-placed Creaking Hearts should not attack the player they come from, and should take on a slightly altered texture to match with the wood type of whatever biome the heart is currently in. They should also be able to be redstone-activated, and when powered, they should spawn The Creaking regardless of if it is day or night. This would allow for horror minigames to be made more easily in survival using The Creaking and for security systems based on The Creaking to work better. The mob should also be buffed in speed or in attack damage; preferably not both, as that would make it a bit harder than I think it is intended to be.

Slight issues with creaking, this is definitely because of FOV but looking straight down completely neutralizes the threat of the creaking also it does next to no damage barely 2hp without armor
I think it should play out with other mobs more like support, it does more damage making actually threatening but skeletons and creepers etc should spawn more to actually play into the fact that this is still the overworld.
I think the current spawn rate of the creaking is pretty good but other mobs should spawn more frequently or be alerted by the creaking's movements to complement each other.

It would be great if the daytime spawn worked different. That way minigames could be made utilizing them to be played at any time.

Maybe make it so if the Heart is placed below y=0 it will spawn at any time.

I played some nights in survival in the pale garden (Full Iron Armor/Tools, Normal Difficulty). Here are my thoughts:

1.The Creaking is not camouflaged very well: Since the creaking will usually be turned towards you after it has walked towards you, I was always able to see its bright eyes. This made it trivial to see in most cases. For this it might help to have the mob have its eyes usually closed, and only open them occasionally.

2.I always knew when a creaking had spawned due to their easily noticeable spawning sounds. Due to this I usually knew that one was close by and was never surprised by one.

3.The main threat in the pale garden were still normal hostile mobs. The creaking is not a huge threat by itself. The creaking instead serves to make the other hostile mobs more difficult to deal with, as it restricts where you can look and aim. I quite like this, as it provides a more unique challenge. Despite that I do think the creaking should be more powerful. I was able to ignore the creaking in most cases, as it barely deals any damage. The only problem I had was the knockback when being attacked, while trying to mine the creaking heart. Otherwise it can be easily ignored.

Overall I really enjoyed my time in the pale garden. Well done, Mojang!

Slight nitpick: The creeper fells weirdly out of place in this biome, since its color is very different from the ground. Maybe add a creeper variant? It could make the same noises as the creaking to help alleviate the issue from point 2.

Make it so that spavn Creaking depends not only on the time of day, but also on lighting, that is, if the area is dark enough, it will spavnivayut or you can spavnivayut Creaking even if it's daytime, but, for example, in a dark place, by placing a heart block, the player a cave or a box without light, and if a ray of light falls on it, it disappears, it would be cool.

Make it scarier with creepier design, sounds, and more damage. And give it unique loot without killing it, maybe it can drop stuff if you stare at it? The mob idea is amazing but the execution is poor.... it seems useless and it's "just there" with no reason to visit the mob at night. I watched minecraft live, and I'm not sure about this smaller game drops system anymore, because it feels like quantity over quality. Will there be no more big updates like the nether update?

The pale garden and the creaking are AMAZING additions to the game! My only gripe is how small the biomes seem to be, larger biomes would give a MUCH better experience as it'd allow a good challenge for the player to navigate through and just make the biome all the more special!

I saw a great suggestion for Ominous Bottles setting off an Ominous pale forest version: sounds like a big but really cool addition. This could be how Creaking Hearts become renewable: maybe after surviving an Ominous pale forest, when you harvest a Creaking Heart, it drops 2 or 3 Creaking Heart items rather than 1.

Can the creaking's roots retract when it's moving. Not a large change, but it's the little things y'know.
