The creaking should have multiple models. Because it is a mob based on a tree, every creaking spawn should have some variety to it, just the same as the trees do when growing.

I feel that the creaking should deal slightly more damage to make it a "scarier" threat than it is right now, also make it run slightly faster so that the player can't escape it by just running.

The Creaking should definitely be a mob you hear before you see. I think the warden climbing out of the ground mechanic would work nice with these guys, except have them come from inside the trees.

Someone made a good suggestion of having their eyes close when you are looking 'directly' at them. I think that would give spooky feedback that they know, that you know, they are watching you.

I personally the darker parts of his wooden form should be a bit darker, he just looks a little flat.

Creakings should slowly close their eyes when being observed to blend with the surrounding trees.

We should be able to name a creaking to keep it from despawning during the day!

i wish we had a spawn animation, something like the creaking getting out of the trees, like he's part of the trees, and please make it do more damage, it feels weak!

The creaking should defineteley drop something. Creaking eyes maybe? That could make for a cool redstone block that detects when a player is looking at it. But I think anything really will do. Also, make the creaking slightly faster than the player, so that you actually have to look at it and walk backwars. In its current state, you can just run away.

Creaking hearts should be renewable, maybe by growing pale oak saplings in the pale garden biome.

I feel like the Creaking should do more damage overall. Maybe this can be balanced by only having Creakings spawn in the Pale Garden, decreasing the amount of Creaking Hearts there, or having its damage go through armor.

I think The Creaking is an awesome new addition to the game. It's clear that one of its purposes outside of the Pale Garden is to allow the player to gamify it and do whatever they want with it. I think this is awesome and makes doing minigames like this a lot easier for the player. However, there is a bit to be desired in terms of what the player can control with The Creaking. As it stands, it looks like The Creaking doesn't do very much damage, which is fine for hunting for Creaking Heart Blocks, but not so much for making mini-games with it. Since the Creaking Heart Block requires wood to surround parts of it in order to spawn The Creaking, using other wood types besides the Pale Oak could lead to a lot of interesting differences with The Creaking. Here's a few ideas I had:

Birch Wood - The Weeping Angel behavior is inverted, attacks you when looked at and doesn't move otherwise

Cherry Wood - Completely pacifies the mob

Mangrove Wood - Mob will always try to attack the player

Dark Oak Wood - The mob will do twice the regular damage

Oak Wood - The mob moves faster

Acacia Wood - The mob moves slower

Spruce Wood - The mob's attacks ignores armor

Jungle Wood - The mob can link to multiple Creaking Heart Blocks

Crimson Hyphae - The mob's attacks inflicts fire damage

Warped Hyphae - The mob's attacks inflict slowness

I understand this would be a lot of work texturing and programming wise, but I feel like it could be a fun addition to the mob and be really fun to experiment with!

A second idea I have, is please add fake Creaking statues throughout the biome. Which can be mined and used as decoration.

The Creaking should deal more damage and have a drop that makes it worthwhile to defeat multiple of them

Placing specific blocks around a Creaking Heart should summon a Creaking with a different behavior, maybe having it attack hostile mobs instead of players.

The Creaking particles cannot be seen if you have particle settings on minimal. As someone who has to have particle settings on minimal this means I can't see where the Creaking Heart is. Maybe if the Creaking Heart emitted a sound (like a heartbeat) the got louder the closer you were could be a thing.

I think the Creaking should be taller. Definitely taller that the Enderman. Also, players should get the creaking heart only at night-time and only from naturally generated trees.

Since there's currently no reward for defeating the Creaking, maybe Player-placed Creaking Hearts could spawn Creaking that attack all mobs instead of just Players. I don't think this would be too powerful, because the Creaking would still only be able to attack the mobs when they look away, and Players would have to strategically place the Creaking Heart so that the Creaking couldn't get to any mobs that they wanted to stay alive, like pets or Villagers

the creaking isn't nearly fast enough and/or doesn't do nearly enough damage to be a threat. don't get me wrong its really creepy and  had a jump scare turning around a tree and seeing it camouflaged... but while messing around in the pale garden... i just walked through the forest unharmed. they cant keep up even when i was walking and with zero armour they did 1 heart. the creaking is scary when you realise this.

I think the Creaking is to weak, it inflicts less damage than a Zombie and it have a lower attack rate. it exist multiple possiblility to make the Creaking a real danger :

    • Increase the damage
    • Increase the speed
    • Increase the attack rate
    • Closer it is the heart, more damage it inflicts

One problem of the Crecking is when it does a damage you return and it have the time tu hit you just one time and you have the time to heal you.

If the Creaking is more dangerous it also create more fear, because if you do a error it can cause the death.

And for the speed the concept of the mob is to not stop to watch it so if he go so slow you have just to run and he can't reach you.

Currently does one heart of damage without armor. This is nothing and cannot even be considered a threat. Five hearts of damage without armor sounds a bit better. Players need to be made to respect the special mechanic when interacting with it, not just run around and take the monsters hits with ease.

Secondly, right now there is no incentive to actually interact with the creaking. Perhaps the creaking heart could have a different drop if it is destroyed normally compared to when destroyed with silk touch, could have a useful difference when placed by a player, or the creaking mob itself could drop an item when destroyed.

The creaking turns and faces random directions even if the player is looking at it, somewhat ruining the effect.
It also feels like on FOV > 80 you can very much see the creaking move, the experience feels different depending on your camera preferences.

On the topic of the creaking being weak, it is really easy to neutralize them without even caring about the heart by breaking two blocks under them. For this reason, I would make it so that their roots prevent you from breaking the blocks they are standing on. This would also be an interesting and new mechanic that could maybe be put to use in some contexts in technical minecraft.

The 3 biomes I have checked were super small, it would be cool to see them be larger!

Right now the Creaking only deals 1 heart of dmg on normal and 1.5 on hard. The mob poses less of a challenge than a zombie right now.

It would be interesting to see the Creaking attack more mobs, right now it doesn't even attack Iron Golems (though Golems do try to attack it, but to no avail)

I often make Minecraft vids, and horror stuff like Warden is very popular with kids/adults, as they create reactions and tense adventures! I'm thankful that Mojang adds more, but I feel the Creaking really missed the mark.

I love the SCP-like immortality. But the design of the mob/biome can be more menacing, right now the art direction feels uninspired like some low-rated mod. Add some fog, black mud. The mob damage is too low. But more importantly, there's no reason to go here at night. There's only decor blocks that you can simply get in the day.

T.Chambers have Maces, Deep Dark has the bad Swift Sneak (but there's still a unique reward). This "challenge" however can be easily stopped with a bed. Why would I go here at night? There's a massive game design issue that needs to be fixed here. Mojang wanted new features to integrate with existing ones, but this addition is somehow doing the opposite.

Maybe at night, enchanted twigs can spawn for players to make a wand, hookshot, or jewelry? This creates a tangible reward that can help with exploration, building etc like extended range. Maybe it also require copper and amethyst, which makes new features coexist with old ones? This is how we create meaningful additions that integrate with existing content.

I'm worried that with these small drops, end update will never happen. This biome fits perfectly there, and mining enderite can easily be a reward for this challenge.

Lastly, the noisy particles for the heart can be toned down.

    creaking should have its drop

We need a reason to go out and encounter creaking, like a unique drop somehow. Right now the only thing worth doing with the pale garden is grabbing a sapling and leaving.

The Creaking should drop Pale Oak Saplings instead of the leaves. This change would give players a reason to go to the Pale Garden at night and defeat the Creaking.

Give the Creaking heart a dual purpose like holding the heart or having it inventory ensures you are silenced in the Ancient Cities, or hostile mobs keep back a set number of blocks or such.

I played some nights in survival in the pale garden (Full Iron Armor/Tools, Normal Difficulty). Here are my thoughts:

1.The Creaking is not camouflaged very well: Since the creaking will usually be turned towards you after it has walked towards you, I was always able to see its bright eyes. This made it trivial to see in most cases. For this it might help to have the mob have its eyes usually closed, and only open them occasionally.

2.I always knew when a creaking had spawned due to their easily noticeable spawning sounds. Due to this I usually knew that one was close by and was never surprised by one.

3.The main threat in the pale garden were still normal hostile mobs. The creaking is not a huge threat by itself. The creaking instead serves to make the other hostile mobs more difficult to deal with, as it restricts where you can look and aim. I quite like this, as it provides a more unique challenge. Despite that I do think the creaking should be more powerful. I was able to ignore the creaking in most cases, as it barely deals any damage. The only problem I had was the knockback when being attacked, while trying to mine the creaking heart. Otherwise it can be easily ignored.

Overall I really enjoyed my time in the pale garden. Well done, Mojang!

Slight nitpick: The creeper fells weirdly out of place in this biome, since its color is very different from the ground. Maybe add a creeper variant? It could make the same noises as the creaking to help alleviate the issue from point 2.
