Request to Continue Providing PDB Files in Future BDS Versions

Dear Mojang Studios,
 
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing on behalf of many in the Bedrock Dedicated Server community to express our concern regarding the removal of PDB files in the latest preview version (1.21.10). Historically, PDB files have been crucial for debugging and maintaining plugins loader that enhance the BDS experience. Their absence in future releases could have severe negative impacts on our community.
 
PDB files provide essential debugging information that allows developers to create and maintain plugins loader effectively. Without these files, updating and ensuring plugin compatibility with new BDS versions becomes exceedingly difficult, potentially leading to a decline in available custom plugins and tools.
 
A lot of bedrock servers rely on a wide range of plugins to offer unique experiences and manage server operations. The lack of PDB files hinders the ability to debug and update these plugins loader, which could result in server closures and negatively affect the player community.
 
While we understand the security concerns that may have led to this decision, we believe alternative measures can address these issues without compromising development needs.
 
We urge the BDS development team to reconsider the removal of PDB files. Maintaining these files is vital for the continued health and growth of the BDS community. We hope to finding a solution that addresses security while supporting development.

    This really affects me, I need the mods to work so I can use things that help me real thing right, for example, my coordinates have colours on them to help them stand out so it’s easier for me to read, this realy affects me and my friends. This change ruins the game.

    Hackers don't need the PDB files to make hacked clients. They will find a way on their own, like they have in the past. Without the PDB files it makes it harder for the good modders to make plugins, which form the lifeblood of the community.

    Java and Bedrock will never have parity, but thoughtless changes like these are what I believe hinders it the most.

    You can't just remove this. People have been using this for years, and then you just decide to remove it? If you're worried about your privacy, then just change it a bit or something, but you can't just straight up remove it. Modding is what minecraft is most known for! You can't just take that away from us. Minecraft is a game about creativity, and yet you are trying to take away the tool that allows for possibly the most creative thing you can do in minecraft! You need to start thinking more about what the community thinks rather then just doing something like this. Maybe next time ask before doing something like that. Because if you decide to not add the PDB file back, then you will lose so much of the creative community that you have.

    Please don't remove functionality you already had implemented. The access to these files allows the community to HELP YOU do bug finding/fixing. You aren't going to steer people towards your marketplace. Instead you will steer people away from your game when public servers cease to exist.

    removing the pdb from future releases is a TERRIBLE idea, cheats will continue to work and be developed regardless of including the file. this will change nothing

    One of the worst changes that could be made to Minecraft would to remove the ability to create mods reliably. Now parity w/ Java isn't a concept anymore, it's a joke.

    PDB Files have been essential for Plugin Loaders for Bedrock Edition, as they've allowed us to actually know what the Bedrock files are and what they are doing and how we can modify them. By removing them, you are destroying an entire community of modding on Bedrock, even moreso than when you limited File Explorer on Xbox without an actual reason that makes sense. The file explorer issue is an entirely seperate topic, but still, it's insane how much removing PDB files show you don't care about the modding community.

    Removing access to pdb files creates a bad sentiment for modding as a whole (even on java). You have to realize that modding is what kept the game alive before 2020 when it got big again. You remove easy access to mods and the game will slowly inevitably die.
