I notice a lot of comments about it being a hammer (I've put 'hammer' as the lolcat translation because of it), and about it being bad in 2D.

To counter, I like the 2D sprite, and think it keeps it looking like a spinoff (there's a difference between mod and spinoff; it looks right now to me like a mod which will wear off, but 3D would make it look like the spinoffs). However, to make it clearer that it's the core and the mace, you might want to harden the corner in the middle and make the holes in the core darker and more defined. It took me two or three looks to even realize that it looked like the core with the holes on the two sides.

This is a reminder that not "everyone wants the mace to be 3D", because there is a meaningful alternative (unlike some other changes)

I think another possible fix for the Mace ( for those who think it's overpowered in its current state, like I do ) is to do away with negating the fall damage, and instead significantly reduce fall damage like landing on a Hay Bale would, because while yes, doing something like trying to one shot the Wither or Warden would have terrible consequences should you miss, I think the very existence of something being able to one hit any mob if done from high enough, is far too overpowered, especially when you look at how much health the Warden has ( 500 ) you'd think it was added to avoid being one shot... so the Mace being able to do such doesn't feel right at all...

Cool I approve. I think the heavy core could use some content tho. Like perhaps 4 or 9 of them could be used to make a full block version that can pushed by pistons it would be a sort of vault block thats super hard to break manly used for vault doors and walls made by the player.

I think the Mace looks great!

I really do hope it gets Unbreaking and Mending in the future though, so it isn't super painful to get another one when you can no longer upgrade your first Mace due to anvil limitations.

I also hope to see a Netherite upgrade for it! Just making it lava/fireproof is good enough for me, but I'd imagine a small boost in strength would also come alongside it. (And while I'm at it, can I suggest Netherite upgrades for Tridents and Elytra? They're also notoriously difficult to replace)

I wouldn't consider adding new enchantments, but reuse enchantments:

    Knockback

    • Current Effect: Increases the knockback distance inflicted on the primary target hit by the weapon.
    • Mace Specific Effect: In addition to the regular knockback boost, this enchantment could also strengthen the AoE knockback of the mace's smash attack.

    Channeling

    • Current Effect: Makes trident shoot lighting in thunderstorms. (Not applicable to maces)
    • Mace Specific Suggestion: Introduce a new channeling effect specifically for the mace. When channeling a smash attack, the mace could unleash an AoE damage burst around the impact point, dealing a percentage (e.g., 25%) of the original smash attack damage.
    • Compatibility Note: This channeling effect for the mace could be made incompatible with Fire Aspect to avoid overly powerful combinations.

    Fire Aspect

    • Current Effect: Sets the target on fire after being hit with a weapon enchanted with Fire Aspect.
    • Mace Specific Effect: Instead of just the primary target, the Fire Aspect enchantment on a mace could set all entities within the AoE knockback radius on fire. This would create a fiery explosion effect with the smash attack, adding a new offensive layer to the mace.
    • Compatibility Note: Similar to Channeling, Fire Aspect with this effect could be made incompatible with Channeling to avoid having both area damage and area DoT (damage over time).

make the mace 3d, and maybe try to make some special enchantments for it like the trident. also there could be a new boss that requires something like 4 heavy cores to spawn in the trials, and killing him could drop his scales which can be crafted into the new best armour in the game. also it would also be cool if the mace can be modified with a string or a chain in the smithing table or the anvil which would make it like a melee aswell as a short ranged weapon. right now minecraft has a pretty basic storyline but it would be better if there were items which required a lot of grinding to get to make the game more fun, and the new boss which i mentioned above. really looking forward to more snapshots

THIS IS REALLY COOL, and I would like to give some ideas about MACE THE SMASHER

Make it placeable and will behave like an anvil (affected by gravity) and when it fall on someone, it will smash them and deal more damage than anvil.
we can place it anywhere on ground then  pick it up back when we go for a fight.
Make it throwable, and after it gets launched it will land on ground like a real hammmmer.
And we can enchant it with loyalty enchantment, so it will come back.
and ik it will become 3D, sooo, before throwing i want a spinning animation. Steve will spin it in hand before throwing.
Overall, great job mojang. 1.21 is going to change minceraft
(and i know we are getting new enchantment for it 👀)

I like that it is, in terms of dps, similar to diamond swrd. But it should have enchantments to improve this dmg, have some damage on the area of knockback, maybe the more close to the hit mob, the more damage. If not, it will not be used on late game. A thing that would be great is that connecting a critical hit with the mace, make you the next jump to make a super jump, maybe consuming windcharges in your inventory like the arrows of bows to make it more balanced. This would help on using the mace eficiently without getting crazy in the process and be able to get a streak of crits making it more balanced in front of other weapons like swords, which can upgrade their damage with enchantments; maces can't. If the mace is not balanced enough in order to make it have (with all enchants or mecanics added, and on full late game player) a similar dps to a fully enchanted nthrite swrd (the same late game player), the mace will not be used so much. Something similar hapens to the tridnt, which is not used to fight because its dmg is not comparable to enchanted swords and bows. It would be great for tridents to have increasing damage enchantments (like sharpness that doesn't matter the enemy, the increase of damage exists), maybe separated between close combat and ranged combat, to make it more comparable to swords and bows. Also the mace should have a slower attack speed, like axes, but having similar dps (1 attack per second but 11 dmg, instead of 1.6 attacks per second and 7 dmg

Would look cooler in 3D like the trident. Also maybe you would be able to insta-break glass with the mace if you have efficiency on it so that you don't do it by accident. Although silk touch would be needed for it to make sense without shattering. Perhaps the Heavy Core can be used for something other than crafting the mace too.

Excited for the new weapon, always like the concept of unique items (ie trident/elytra etc).

add a wind effect to the mace, the strength of which depends on the speed at which you land

Adding new weapons to the game is nice, I was hoping it would integrate more with the existing features in the game. Currently it only exitst because of elements that will be added (breeze rod, wind charge, heavy core). I know that elytra and rockets can be uses in combination with the item, but it still feels like an extra layer because it isn't linked to other materials. Just like the trident it is made with pieces you find in 1 specific location and only has one path to obtaining it.

    Possible solutions for the recipe:

    • adding firework charges (this could give an effect to the attack)
    • adding a material (upgradable via the smitthing table, sou you could start with a iron mace but upgrade it later to a diamond or netherite mace, extending durability)
    • just using a stick instead of a breeze rod (simplefies the recipe and makes it less added content)
    • adding an iron nugget between the rod and core (symbolises the connection between the pieces)

I love the exploration of new tools, and hope they make a subtantial addition instead of an addition to the inventory problem.

While the Mace is mostly well balanced, but it does become problematic with the Elytra. players can easily fly up, then down to one-shot mobs. This is fine for normal mobs, as it takes effort and precision, but too overpowered against withers. withers no longer feel like a boss if you can just instantly kill them at the cost of a couple fireworks (simply doing it above water takes care of fall damage risks).

The Heavy Core is too rare. it may not be too bad in some cases, however it's not uncommon to get unlucky and go like 4 chambers without getting one, which doesn't feel very good.

Also, I hope the Heavy Core will get another use in crafting, as having ingredients with just one use is generally bad. Giving players a choice to make with the Heavy Core would be much better.

maybe add a unique "jump" enchantment that lets you fly off the ground with a mace

I think the mace should have a spinning animation as you fall to the ground, and you could activate the animation by pressing the screen (or left clicking) if you don't do the animation you won't stop fall damage, as well as the the animation will bounce you from the ground and bounce back into the air. If you right click you could do a ground slam ability which will slam you straight on the ground doing lots of damage. Each bounce could use 10 durability, overall great weapon :D (please make the mace enchantable)

We've given the mace a spin with friends, it adds fun depth to combat. It's great how a good wind charge + mace attack rewards the player with more damage than a sharpness V netherite axe, though it's unlikely to happen. We'd have to create arenas exclusive for maces to prevent players from just spamming common weapons. It's too bad that mace arenas are impossible to do in survival servers due to limited mace and wind charge uses.

As others said, maces will be hard to use in bedrock without dual wielding. It's not just mobile, consoles and even PC need a shortcut button to quickly activate hotbar items like wind, pearls, etc. See xisuma's "Minecraft 1.20 inventory update" and jump to simple idea #1 on 4:48, this'll make gameplay smooth on bedrock, and solves inventory issues.

Mojang has been cooking lately, it's changing for the better and I'm glad the team takes more risks to add fun content, and making the trial chambers rewarding. "Fun" and "rewarding" needs emphasis. These last few years, youtubers often make fun clickbait content like "trial keys opening deep dark portal", or update news showing cool new weapons. Even if mojang doesn't promise it, kids are tricked regardless into believing the next updates are great, then get disappointed. Fortunately, 1.21 is looking decent and might escape this fate.

Minecoins might be controversial, but I know it's income for mojang to keep making updates, and I'll support the game by buying addons if the team keeps making vanilla fun.

I think it should not be called "Mace", but "Hammer" instead. It also needs a 3d texture, so it doesn't look like a strange axe

I think Mace should be some sort of first step to open the portal in the Warden city, that would be cool.

I love this new weapon, and it advances combat-requiring skills. As it stands, from a certain height, you can one-shot a warden, which is a bit OP, although it does require a lot of skill. Will there be a damage cap added? Also, the mace is described as a heavy weapon, yet its stats are just like a diamond sword, so in my opinion, it should take longer than an axe to fully load and do as much damage as a netherite axe (10 hp) or more.

Hello! I really liked the new weapons you added to Minecraft. But there is one bug - it is impossible to enchant the mace, even to repair it. Therefore, I hope that you will fix this bug in the next snapshots.

    New enchant:
    Berserker:
Now the player gets 10% of fall damage, but The Mace deals 25% more damage

I propose to make the mace 3D texture when held in the hand, as well as fix the bug with the inability to enchant the mace and still create for the mace exclusive enchantments for example "Wave Shock" which when struck will cause an air and shock wave of 5 blocks long, this enchantment should be added because in the craft of the mace is used breeze rod, which is like a drop of Breeze, and Breeze in turn drops this rod, which allows you to create wind charges. I think I've covered it all, thanks for the inspiration.

I have a few ideas on how to change weapons. First, make the attack speed a little lower. Secondly, it would be logical that the damage increased during acceleration, thanks to which the speed potion would be used more often in battle. Thirdly, it would be possible to make 2 variations of the mace, which would be created from a fiery rod and a heavy core, combined with a netherite ingot.

The mace in the inventory in 2D does not look very good, it is better to make it 3D, but so that it does not block too much space on the screen, like a trident.

Love the snapshot! Maybe the mace's damage should be resisted by the Blast Protection enchantment?

How about adding a sound effect for when you jump on an enemy and successfully hit them? For example, a sound like a hammer striking, or something similar.

    1. I would like the item to be in 3D.
    2. Meme more damage, less speed, to give more uniqueness from the diamond sword.
    3. Replacing the Breeze sticks with regular ones. The Breeze stick is an item with 1 use (+ Violates logic. The Breeze does not even consist of sticks ...).
    4. Damage to the crowd from a normal jump (for a short distance). It transforms the combat and reveals more about the features of the object in an area without hills.)
    5. Small non-fatal damage from a fall.

Mace needs a volumetric model like Trident!
