Unless there is a performance issue with the delay, there is no reason to do that change

Same for the crafter in my opinion, no reason to cap the speed, it's more aligned with player crafting speed and can be a worthy alternative

Rather than reverting the change entirely, why not make the delay depend on the copper bulb's oxidation stage? For each stage of weathering, it gets 1 more game tick of delay. This would be a great fit for the copper bulb, with weathering actually impacting the block's behavior, and provide even more redstone possibilities! You could use all four weathered variants in a circuit to achieve different delays, or pick a specific delay depending on your circuit's needs. And of course, you can wax the bulb to keep the delay locked in!

Edit: didn't see the above post, looks like someone had the same great idea! I was having the most heated debate about reverting the copper bulb in a technical Minecraft chat when someone suggested this idea, and we all stopped arguing immediately and agreed it's the perfect solution.

Mojang should actually just recode MCPE's redstone system so there is 20gt per second and not 10gt per second. This actually doesn't let us get odd game tick in MCPE/MCBE. I'm pretty sure the reason they made it even delay is because of MCPE... But still, Mojang should not nerf the copper bulb on one edition of Minecraft, just because the other doesn't support the odd tick delay.

Please revert the copper bulb to a 1 tic delay. It allows for new contraptions and gives it a place in the world.

Reposting because the other thread got deleted:

I agree with reverting the copper bulb to the behaviour it was originally introduced with. It was popular among the community, and provided a new functionality for more advanced and creative players to create new things without impacting how most players will interact with the bulb (using a lever or button to toggle it).

I can see how the other change introduced this week (to crafters) could be necessary for balance and to prevent exploitation, but this change cannot be justified this way. It is already a different class of functionality to existing redstone, and does not need to behave like them. Using this reasoning, very little would be added to the game today simply because it wasn't similar enough to what came before it.

To make both sides happy,  just put a toggle in the settings to choose how you want it.

We have other blocks that already have a 2gt delay. Repeaters, note blocks and so forth. We do not need another block with a 2 gt delay. The 1 gt delay worked well as it allowed for finer timing of redstone circuitry without resorting to hacky and likely lag inducing workarounds to achieve this finer level of control. More over the reduction in complexity this block provides could also serve to aid in bridging the gap between java and bedrock Redstone. Since you would reduce your reliance on hacky workarounds that could end up being very implementation specific.

All and all, this nerf is a mistake and should either be reverted or this functionality should be given to another block if this change was due to a fear of the bulb having too many uses. I do remind you that comparators exist.

Having a 1 tick delay in one block is very a very useful feature. Removing it from the game serves no purpose.

It was an attended feature the first time and it became a very love feature, I think it just makes sense to revert it back to its original text speed.

Copper Bulbs now have no delay (like a trapdoor) instead of 1 game tick of delay (1/2 a redstone tick) for turning on/off. This means comparators and observers now activate 2gt after the Bulb is un/powered rather than 3gt.

Some reasons why 1gt delay is good
    :

    • It's the most compact way to make odd gt delay
    • it creates more diversity in redstone components; it doesn't behave like a hopper or trapdoor or noteblock when using an observer on it

Some reasons why no delay is good:

    • Its more united with the other redstone components that all have even delay, so it's easier to synchronize, and more understandable for novice redstoners.
    • Copper Bulb circuits are faster
    • Copper Bulb now responds to 0-tick pulses, and can even be toggled multiple times in the same tick. This opens up some interesting new applications.

Both ways have their pros, and people are going to be unsatisfied if either way is chosen. So why settle for just one way or the other? We can have a system where the oxidation level corresponds to delay:
    No Corrosion - no delay
Exposed - 1 game tick delay
Weathered - 2 game ticks of delay
Oxidized - 3 game ticks of delay

A change like this will satisfy both groups of people. It's also cool in a lore sense - older redstone circuits work slower if not waxed. Not to mention it expands the use cases of the copper bulb with 2gt and 3gt delay possible. It also brings the copper bulb closer to the identity of copper as a material with the oxidation mechanic.

The 1 tick delay changed everything. But Mojang had to fight back.

I'd like to bring attention to this. This change was actually made so the copper bulb would behave the same way on java and bedrock edition, because bedrock edition is crappy and can handle half the ticks per second. Our copper bulb was ruined in the name of bedrock edition, which I already hated, but now I'm furious.

This feels like just a band-aid solution. Instead of making Java redstone worse, why not make bedrock redstone better? Because you just needed to do that anyway.

I am dead serious. If this change is not reverted, I will code a datapack / mod and revert the tick change so we can have the 1 tick delay we deserve. I don't even know how to code, but I will figure it out.

Strongly disagree with the idea that the copper bulb should be one-tick delayed because "I want it". Whether or not a 1-tick delay is useful in general isn't really relevant to whether the copper bulb should have it or not. The function of a copper bulb is to be a toggleable light source. For manual interaction and using it for that purpose in redstone, 0-tick delay is a better implementation. 1-tick delay created a weird, unnatural delay when interacting normally with the block and was nothing but a decrease in performance for redstone circuits that used the toggle property.

A potential solution for that could be different delays depending on oxidation state, but I don't really think that's a good idea because then creating a stable redstone device with copper bulbs would require you to make sure all copper bulbs are waxed, which is not an easily visible property.

I've not seen any valid reason why this was even accepted and pushed as a bug, as it is clearly a new and unique block with new properties to explore.

Alternatively, have each state of the copper bulb have a different delay to match with the fact that it appears to be "decaying". Regardless, the 1 tick delay was revolutionary for the redstone community. It should stay in the game. Something that the community was so excited for should not be needlessly removed.

Look, Imma be frank with you, this block was so good and you took a false bug report and nerfed it. If this doesn't get reverted it could very well create way more distrust from the redstone part of the community. A feature like a 1 tick can very well compact and make things so much more efficient. You may think that changing this for the sake of consistency will improve things, but it just turns it into another block. Not to say that it's useless, but we as players want some nuance for once. To feel like we are back at the beginning of our journeys. We can take the changes for the crafter, that's fine. But this copper lamp's 1 tick is such a monumental feature that you're depriving us of. We just want something new for once. Don't drag java down just because of bedrock.

like this change makes the copper bulb just as useful as noteblocks.
the only difference is that noteblocks when hard powered also power other noteblocks,
but you could circumvent this easily by offsetting or using trapdoors or fencegates instead.
while i agree that blocks should be consistent, but only within themselves, otherwise every block would be the same.
the only difference between a noteblock and a bulb now is that bulbs dont softpower other blocks, but then you could use a hopper.

having blocks be unique is way better than them being consistant!

the copper bulb went from being a block to compact and speed up contraptions to being only useful in the one thing it was designed to do

Easily one of the worst changes made to actual game content this year. the 1-tick delay was fun. removing it made the block basically useless for anything but holding a static value.

They reverted the one thing that made it unique. Now no one will use it over any other redstone contraption.
