I completely agree with this. The 1 tick delay was a delightful and revolutionary functionality. I don't understand why they removed it.

Thank you! Diversity of block's functions can only be a good thing, allowing for new contraptions and functions!

Please revert this change... It made the bulb especially useful...

This would be really nice to have, and as the bulb is generally used for Redstone more often than just lighting, the faster tick speed would improve the useability of the block, for offsetting signals or not

Please revert, the tick delay allowed for unique contraptions.

The given reason for this change was "we aim to make the [...] copper bulb [more consistent] with other blocks that react or change state when a connected redstone signal changes." yet pistons take 3 gameticks to extend and 0 gameticks to retract. If anything, keeping the copper bulb with a 1 gt delay (rather than the new 2 gt delay) would be more in-line with other blocks / give more options to the player.

Making a block that acts just a bit differently from others is how new Redstone ideas are galvanized, such as the functions of the target block or slime block. Please revert he copper bulb keep its 1 tick update delay instead of this new one so we can use then in our builds as such.
    Thank you!

They could add a feature that a copper bulb has 1 tik per corrosion state. So no corrosion would be 1 tick. That would make it much more versatile for Redstone.

They should either do that or make every redstone component update on redstone ticks
This means pistons should always update on 2 game ticks instead of 3
If so make bedrock pistons update consistently at any time

putting it more in line with other components makes it the same as the redstone components, why bother adding a new redstone block that's basically the same as the others?

I don't understand why it was changed in the first place. Wasn't the most praised feature of the Copper Bulbs the 1-tick delay? Why would they remove that?

There is no downside to having the copper bulb work on odd redstone ticks, just because it isn’t “conventional” doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing. Before the nerf, the redstone community was reinvigorated and created many cool contraptions, and it brought a fresh feel to both simple and complex redstone.

The copper bulb delay needs to be reverted back from two ticks to one tick...

either revert the change or add a new block with 1gt delay

At least consider adding the same 1-tick functionality in another form in the game along with more transparent discussion with the community regarding the pros / cons of the choices being made to controversial changes.

Thank you devs for all of the hard work

Rather than reverting the change entirely, why not make the delay depend on the copper bulb's oxidation stage? For each stage of weathering, it gets 1 more game tick of delay. This would be a great fit for the copper bulb, with weathering actually impacting the block's behavior, and provide even more redstone possibilities! You could use all four weathered variants in a circuit to achieve different delays, or pick a specific delay depending on your circuit's needs. And of course, you can wax the bulb to keep the delay locked in!

Edit: didn't see the above post, looks like someone had the same great idea! I was having the most heated debate about reverting the copper bulb in a technical Minecraft chat when someone suggested this idea, and we all stopped arguing immediately and agreed it's the perfect solution.

Copper Bulbs now have no delay (like a trapdoor) instead of 1 game tick of delay (1/2 a redstone tick) for turning on/off. This means comparators and observers now activate 2gt after the Bulb is un/powered rather than 3gt.

Some reasons why 1gt delay is good
    :

    • It's the most compact way to make odd gt delay
    • it creates more diversity in redstone components; it doesn't behave like a hopper or trapdoor or noteblock when using an observer on it

Some reasons why no delay is good:

    • Its more united with the other redstone components that all have even delay, so it's easier to synchronize, and more understandable for novice redstoners.
    • Copper Bulb circuits are faster
    • Copper Bulb now responds to 0-tick pulses, and can even be toggled multiple times in the same tick. This opens up some interesting new applications.

Both ways have their pros, and people are going to be unsatisfied if either way is chosen. So why settle for just one way or the other? We can have a system where the oxidation level corresponds to delay:
    No Corrosion - no delay
Exposed - 1 game tick delay
Weathered - 2 game ticks of delay
Oxidized - 3 game ticks of delay

A change like this will satisfy both groups of people. It's also cool in a lore sense - older redstone circuits work slower if not waxed. Not to mention it expands the use cases of the copper bulb with 2gt and 3gt delay possible. It also brings the copper bulb closer to the identity of copper as a material with the oxidation mechanic.

I was very excited about the potential builds the Copper Bulb's one-tick delay might enable, and am deeply disappointed to see it removed. The snapshot's patch notes don't clearly convey what the intent of this change is. The only explanation we've been given is that this is to make it "consistent with other blocks." But why does it need to be consistent with other blocks? Does this inconsistency actually detract from the game-play experience? Are you worried players who don't have to copy YouTube videos showing them how to generate odd-tick redstone pulses with scaffolding are having their creativity stifled?

the 1 tick delay on the copper bulb was a fantastic addition. The single tick offset provided a great way to build complex redstone contraptions without the added bulk and mess of the preexisting 1 tick delay options.

Agreed. Changing a redstone block to be "more consistent with other similar blocks" is fundamentally bad for redstone. Technical Minecraft is only benefited by blocks having unique properties and behaviors.

I'd like to bring attention to this. This change was actually made so the copper bulb would behave the same way on java and bedrock edition, because bedrock edition is crappy and can handle half the ticks per second. Our copper bulb was ruined in the name of bedrock edition, which I already hated, but now I'm furious.

This feels like just a band-aid solution. Instead of making Java redstone worse, why not make bedrock redstone better? Because you just needed to do that anyway.

I am dead serious. If this change is not reverted, I will code a datapack / mod and revert the tick change so we can have the 1 tick delay we deserve. I don't even know how to code, but I will figure it out.

I have two points to bring up. First, I cannot understand why they claim that the copper bulb was reverted for the sake of consistency. No one wants new features that are the same as old features.

Second, if they are going to remove the one tick delay, it would make sense for the following reason: using lots of copper bulbs creates light updates which can cause some lag. For that reason I can see why they might want it to be less useful in redstone.

The issue here is that the redstone community was really hyped because of the one tick delay and taking it away after receiving lots of positive feedback is strange and caused a lot of disappointment.

To make up for this mistake, I suggest one of three changes is made:
First, they could simply revert the copper bulb to how it was in the first snapshot. (It was great back then)
Second, they could revert the copper bulb and somehow make it possible to use it in redstone without causing light updates.
Third, if they aren't going to bring back the one tick delay, at least add a new component that has this functionality (maybe a copper repeater?) Many players were very excited about the one tick delay and it's introduction into the game would definitely have caused a surge in activity within the redstone community and possibly for all types of players.

We want to be heard, so prove that you can hear us. Minecraft isn't just some kids game where the players don't have an opinion
