love this change, our current server economy is absolutely tanking due to the lack of diamonds and the fact we need more of them now with the new update, so Im happy with that. But please do not touch the villagers, I love the way they are and would NOT like to see them changed.

Somoeone please tell me if this applies to old chunks or will this new distribution only be found in newly generated chunks

I think the increase in diamond ore is a step in the wrong direction. The game is already quite easy if you know what you are doing. I would even prefer if rates are reduced in specific biomes like plains and slightly increased in biomes like mountains, as someone has already pointed out.

I support this change, but it seems a little overpowered right now. There are so many diamonds now. When slightly lessened, it will be the perfect amount I think.

Another idea is to make this affective on certain biomes. For example, diamond ores could generate more in snowy biomes. This would also courage people to explore other biomes.

it may be a bit much, but given that the main purpose of diamonds now is something cosmetic, it really should be easier to get

i feel like diamonds are common enough, especially with enchants like fortune.

    Hi Mojang,
I think making diamonds slightly more common is a great change.
However, instead of just increasing the amount of diamond veins; I would ask you to consider to make air exposed diamond veins slightly larger.
Too often air exposed diamond veins are only composed of one or two diamond ores, which I find somewhat discouraging.
Thus, I think making air exposed diamond veins larger would meet goal of making diamonds more available, whilst not taking away from the excitement of finding diamonds and adding additional satisfaction when mining the diamond vein.

All ores should be more common from caving. Strip mining is an extremely boring way to play the cave game and I'm someone who does some insanely boring things to optimize fun out of games.

I think the generation of diamonds should depend on the difficulty of the game, whether it is easy, normal or hard. If you want to keep it that way, I think that when there is a diamond nearby, more enemies should appear so that it is not an easy task to mine a large number of them, and you have to have a preparation beforehand.

I think that this is a good change as diamonds are getting more useful now due to the addition of smiting templates and needing diamond to duplicate them so making then more common so you can duplicate them much easier is a definitely a plus to the game and making the process of duplicating templates less tedious and more fun

I think that the players don't need more diamonds everywhere, just need the same quantity of diamonds in this layers, but with the probability of finding the veins of 8 or 9 diamonds exposed, not just 1 or 2 minerals. Increasing the amount of ores and finding them everywhere just makes mining less exciting, as I say, the amount of exposed diamonds is correct, just make the ore veins bigger (4, 5, 8, 9) diamonds and at the same time be rewarded in a good way for exploring and reaching his goal, that way the player will still be excited to see a diamond ore in his mine, if not, he will just see it as another common mineral, like copper or redstone. As an already veteran player, the feeling of seeing a diamond ore in the middle of my adventure through a mine is something unique, because that is the essence of the mineral, being something rare and valuable and when the player has been exploring for a long time with the expectation of finding the valuable and beautiful ore, finding it produces the best feeling that minecraft player can experience, even if it is only 1 or 2 diamonds.

sure if theyre a challenge to get, like on cave roofs or the deep dark

I think it is not a good idea. Diamond ore should be rare and more valuable to let the player to explore further. Players can also acquire them from the special structures by their adventures. (There are already too much diamonds which provide from those structure instead of their special unique items, like smithing template.)

I think a better solution is to reward players for caving for diamonds more as caving is simply inefficient compared to cave diving and branch/strip mining. Seems unintuitive to add all the new caves but make mining for diamonds very inefficient in them. Maybe the chance that a diamond ore vein is discarded could increase with depth? E.g. at y=14 all diamonds are discarded if air is next to them, and at y=-64 no diamonds are discarded if air is next to the vein.

Maybe instead of adding more diamonds to the world, you could consider decreasing the cost of replicating armor trims or netherite upgrades?

I do believe that something should be changed. However, what I would love to see instead is if it was more viable to mine diamonds above deepslate level. Maybe not quite as good as deepslate mining, but still decent (taking the possibility of insta-mining with Haste II and Efficiency V into account). I don't do a lot of mining nowadays, mostly caving, but some people in my family do (most of them are not such experienced players, but they are familiar with older versions of the game), and I also watch streamers do it occasionally, and what I've gathered is that you encounter a lot more interesting obstacles when you mine higher up, such as caves with long drops, aquifers and lava lakes, and overall the process feels more satisfying when you can break blocks faster, even if you get less rewards per time spent.

The 1.20.1 generation rates in deepslate with no air exposure seem fine, but deepslate mining only feels worthwhile after you get at least Fortune III and Efficiency IV on a diamond pickaxe, and I like that it takes a bit of setting up. But something I'm really not a fan of is how small the diamond veins that you find in caves generally are (in 1.20.1). I think they should rarely yield less than 3 diamonds without the Fortune enchantment. I know things like elytra can make caving a little OP, but my experience with caving in early game (my preferred way to get first diamonds) has often been a bit disappointing because more than half of the time I only get 1-2 diamonds.

There are already too many diamonds. Diamonds were made easier to find in the caves and cliffs updates and exposed diamonds were supposed to be rare and they’re not. Now you are making diamonds even more common. All this because of a bunch of whiney kids crying that it’s too hard to find them. All you need to do is mine at about level -47 and you find diamonds galore.

The diamonds is fine. Stop messing with villagers and trades. Like honestly, you are just making noone want to play. I know my self and several hundred people will quit the game if this happens. I spend 1000s of dollars on monecraft and the toys outside of the game. This happens, you can forget my business and that of several thousand people.

Great for strip-mining, but it makes diamonds far too common while caving.

I just think they are currently way too common and feel less special as a result.

I like this change a lot, the only difference I would make is making it difficulty based. Easy makes it easier hard makes it harder, and normal makes it.. normaler? Idk if that’s a word. Anyway thanks for the change, I really like it.

I think Diamond Ores could be buffed, not by making it more common but making blobs more bigger.

i honestly think that increasing the diamond generation is a bad idea, literally with the actual ratio i do strip mine and collect stacks without problem, maybe doing the opposite, decreasing ratio o even reduce the ore quantity, like debris that you can only found 1 or 2 per vein. maybe with that option players will use caves more often.

    I like this change.

I go a lot of strip mining and deepslate really made it a lot harder (without Fortune III it's almost not even worth it), so it's nice to see it improved.

And before people here comment "Just go cave mining!", I do it sometimes, but I always spend way more time fighting mobs and lighting up caves than actual mining, so that's even less rewarding for me.

I think that new diamond generation is great but more easier obtain that.
If the diamonds generation depend of the cave biome?
Example: In the lush caves we have the ancient diamond generation, in the deepslate caves we have a small buff of the ancient diamond generation, and in the dripstone caves, deep dark caves and oceanic caves we have this diamond generation.

I like this change because now its easier to duplicate smithing templates and it makes sense

Personally I don't like this new change. Literally it is so much easier to obtain diamonds than before. I did a test with a friend and Fortune III and we got more than a stack in 5 minutes. Almost feels like X-Ray. I prefer the way it was before and do not worry if we need to mine more, if it's for the armour trims, it's worth it. Moreover, it encourages the exploration of the caves and the posibility of finding cave biomes or geodes without expecting it. This change only would make players get out of their mines quicker than before.

I really like the new diamond ore generation, but I think this is not enough, and diamonds should be renewable. Maybe not early game but definitely late game as diamonds are currently only a finite resource but they have a lot of uses including the new armour trim duplication. Maybe you can make diamonds renewable in the End dimension, maybe in the outer end islands after the player kills the ender dragon, but diamonds should definitely be renewable, it’s something minecraft has needed for years now and after the new 1.20 update minecraft needs renewable diamonds (and renewable netherite) more than ever.

I dont care for this change, as diamond mining is of a waist of time for me because:
    - you need 5 diamonds to get a basic usabele setup (pickaxe and enchanter)
    - rest of your gear you can easily trade for from villagers (even comse with free enchants)
    - exept for armor trims, trim duplication, multiple enchanters, jukboxes and hoes
    > there is no large / long term sink for them. The one sink that might be are tools, however there a villlagers for these

Diamons accumulate in large amounts over time with no uses, so unless a proper long term sink is in the game there is no need to increase the alreadly large supply.

With long term sink I mean some item/block that is usesful for building / automating stuff not a novelty like all the current sinks
