It would be amazing if the trim feature can be added to leather armor for map makers and creators through NBT so that we can have dyed armors with trims or alternatively using shaders to map the leather armor texture to different coordinates based on the color data. That way you can make custom armors with cool trims for them as upgrades such as glowing runes.

    Also
I love the idea of adding glow ink support that others have mentioned. Perhaps there can also be leather armor patterns which can be used for making roleplay clothing? Making them dyeable in the same way leather is would open up a lot of cool customization! Adding horse armor support would be great since you could then make tonnes of variations for horse armors as well.

I think smithing templates should have durability instead of being consumable, with the current duplication recipe creating a full copy (The "original" should remain in the grid, with perhaps one less durability).

Other thant that, I think it would be neat to have a datapack functionality that allows multiple trims on an item.

Some opinions about the new system:

    1. Echo Shards should be added to the ingredient pool due to their unique colors and little use.

    2. Gold trim should have some effect on piglins though.

    3. Armor found in a particular structure should have a chance of having a trim of that structure made of one of the materials that belong to the structure's natural loot.

    4. The crafting cost of the Netherite Upgrade (referring to diamonds) is fine.  This may be a bit too expensive with the usual Blacksmithing Templates.  I suggest replacing all or part of the diamonds with amethyst for duplicating the Blacksmith Templates.

    5. It would be great to be able to apply glow ink to the trim and remove it with regular ink. For this purpose there should be a special smith template, "Ink Primer" which uses both inc sacs as ingredients. Could be found in Abandoned Mines.

    6. "Weaving Pattern" could be the equivalent of leather armor using dyes as ingredients.  It could only have a few patterns like "plaid" and appear in spawners underground.

I think some templates do not correctly represent where it was found. For example, the de vex (of the mansion) is made of stone when the mansion is generally represented with its dark wood or its wool. I think I like the idea of searching the whole Minecraft world but I think it would be better if for example they implemented a template for the igloo with a basement to heal villagers. I even think that the villages could each have a unique template depending on the biome. That would force the player to search all the villages and therefore visit all the biomes.

I believe all the ore trimester should give small bonus examples (gold no piglins attacking' lapis one less lapis required when enchanting' redstone the player gives off a redstone output) I could keep going on but that's the idea

I think applying armor trims should increase the max durability of the armor so it's not just changing the visuals. I understand that the purpose of armor trims are to add more player customization but increasing the max durability doesn't hurt, also it makes a lot of sense. Using diamond or netherite for armor trims is expensive, so at least we get something in return for using those expensive items.

My idea is to add certain templets to the wandering traders. The nether and end ones could be excluded, and make the ones that could pop up in the trade table of a wandering trader pretty rare, but it would make sense. The wandering trader wanders around the world so naturally it would make since for him to find one of these every once in a while. Also I’m really vouching for horse armor trims too.

I like the use of diamonds for duplicating trims, since they don't have other uses.

Horse armour could be nice with trims. Elytra could use a way to customize them that isn't "owning a cape" unless capes are going to become more common in the future, but this isn't it.

Creativity with trims is a bit hard due to how abstract they are - other than using the Vex set to look like robes, and the eye trim on the helmet, most of them are just random lines. As they are now I expect players to use whichever trims they have discovered randomly while playing rather than seeking out any particular patterns for specific designs.

Creating designs like the Miku on Reddit is not very intuitive - it would be nice if the patterns were more distinct and easier to fit together into recognisable designs.

The new smithing table inventory is great and other inventories could use tooltips like that.

Being able to trim a material with itself helps creativity, since it gives more options - and subtle patterning allows for some unique looks. It should be permitted.

Please don't give them any practical use.

Positives: The armor trim patterns are great. Obtaining them adds more reasons to explore. The cost to duplicate them feels good. Gives use to diamonds after mending is acquired.

Cons: The enchantment glint should be toned down more. It is especially disruptive when wearing netherite. Un-enchanted netherite armor looks dark and awesome. Once enchanted you just look big and purple like Grimace. With the additions of trim, it would be great to have better visibility on armor by even further reducing enchanted glint or change it so something more subtle, like the Vanilla Tweaks glint.

Would love to have model-changing templates, like frog-mouth or great helm helmets.

Echo shards could be used as a material to make a glowing trim.

Good addition, only thing for me is to consider which block/item to use when duplicating the trims/upgrade.

The trims don't currently flow well with any of the armor sets. Currently it looks like someone took a brightly colored marker and scribbled on your armor. Also not to much of a fan for how the templates are consumed when used. They should act like banner patterns.

They look amazing! I think horse armor trims would be a great addition. I like the idea of exploration to find special trims. I only wish that there were a pink one.

Everything about this seems fun to me... Except for the lack of a pink option. Pink option please!

    Hi!
So, I'm completely with this update and am in love with the customization this adds. But if there was one thing I'd like to make note of it is making the player use a template to turn their diamond armor into netherite armor makes netherite far more finite as well as making the process clunky.
Giving bastions another use is something I'm not against, of course. However, making netherite harder to obtain is something I'm not exactly all for. At its current state, we have 8 (eight) (?) items that need to be made of netherite, and it sounds like the templates are extremely rare. 2 (Two) templates per bastion sounds good for singleplayer, but when you account for the fact that servers tend to have 10+ people nowadays, it makes it have the same issue elytra hunting has.

    TLDR ;
Bump the spawning rates of the diamond to netherite conversion templates, please!

I love everything about this, lots of opportunities for exploration and adventures. Horse armor trims and elytra trims/cosmetics would be fun too. I think it would be really fun to put trims on trims, (rainbow armor!) even more possibilities.

The copying cost is fine, more uses for diamonds is good, also don’t mind if it’s cheaper(seems most people want it a bit cheaper). That the copy is consumed is fine, it’s endgame content, should be expensive.

My biggest feedback is, the item you find can be consumed, leaving you with nothing to copy and having to find another. If you forget to copy it first, or don’t know, and then the item you have used hours/days to find is suddenly gone. It leads to frustration.

It reminds me of the banner pattern, and that’s not consumed.

I think, the item you find can only be used to make “copies”, like the item you find is just a template. And then the “copy” is consumed.

or the item you find has durability, and you recharge it with diamonds, infinitely, and can’t break.

Templates being expensive is a good thing!

Expression is nice, but it should feel earned. And, it's more unique when you see someone kitted out with trimmed armor. Everyone running around all the time with various mixed and match trimmed armor is visually noisy and should be balanced by the high cost. It's Bling for a reason, yeah?

Trimming shields (The handle + border material) as well as upping the Elder Guardian drop rate to 33% seem like adjustments that would be fantastic, and gold trim neutralizing Piglin's seems intuitive and feels bad when it doesn't work that way.

I'm a big fan of Armour Trims. I think they look amazing and I could definitely see myself enjoying designing the look I want with the different templates and materials.

I definitely think they encourage exploring in a fun way although maybe some of the templates would be better with slightly higher odds.

I like that it gives diamonds another use as well though I think 7 diamonds is too much. 4 or 5 would be fairer.

I think the Smithing table interface is very user friendly and logical.

Overall Armour Trims are a fantastic feature and I like the general idea of how they work. I just thing they should be slightly easier to get and slightly cheaper to clone.

I like the adventure part of finding the templates, but what if they were actual blocks found in the structures they encompass so it can be used as a decoration block as well as a usable item!

There is no reason for a cost to upgrade diamond to netherite. Getting the netherite is already hard enough of a task, needing to pay 7 extra diamond per armour piece is ridiculous and won't encourage using diamond armour, it will discourage using netherite armour. If wanting people to use different armour types is your goal, maybe add special properties to the diamond set instead of taking away from the netherite set. Plus diamonds are a limited resource.

As for the purely cosmetic ones, 7 diamonds is still ridiculous just for a design. Yeah, I know that for both cases you can just go and find enough smithing templates to not need to copy them, but that would probably be too annoying judging by the rarity.

Answering your question, making them expensive doesn't make them feel rare, it makes them feel wasteful, especially when they add nothing other than a cool appearance. Now I don't think they should add anything as that would just result in people using the best ones instead of the ones they like, but it's still important to consider that 7 diamonds for a visual change is too much.

A better way to implement it, in my opinion, would be to exchange diamonds for some other materials that are still rare and also different ones for each design. For example, the upgrades form diamond to netherite could require gold (since it's more in line with the nether) and the rest maybe something special to the biome where they are found. Or maybe reduce the diamonds to 1-2.

You should add echo shards and prismarine to the armor trimming system, so we have dark and light turquoise palettes!

Hey mojang! I love the armor trims but, I have one request however, if you were to add a gold trim the piglins would be neutral I have no idea if that’s to over powered or not I think it’ll be a cool thing to add, you guys could also make it to where it only works like that if it’s on netherite gear

    - Copying templates is a bit too expensive (7 diamonds is too much for something purely cosmetic)
    - Maybe make the piglins not attack you if your armor has gold trim (maybe full armor only)

Great as it is. No trim should have a "value" that isn't purely cosmetic in my opinion, so this is really cool.
You should be able to put the same material on the trim, that's a really weird limitation.

I think, put this feature on the leather clothes can be a good idea, i know, leather already have customisation whit dayes, but if the game allowed us to do this , just imagine, cosplay in Minecraft. Nha just kidding, but the feature it's amazing, love it.
