    Even the new Trims are cosmetics, because of how expensive they are, they should add perks or little effects in order to have a reason to have lots of them. Depending on the material you get an effect, maybe with gold, you get 5% better trades with the piglins, or with redstone you get more XP. Or perhaps depending on the pattern you use you get an effect in a different biome, for example, if you are in a desert with the pattern you find in the desert temples you get speed or luck while staying in that biome, or at the end with the pattern of the End Cities the levitation effect is less effective

    Love the new feature! I think it would be awesome to add echo shards as a material for trimming, would give them a lot more use!

    I can't see the new armor trims, nor the updated smithing table, and I'm on 23w04a

    I love this feature, though it would be really nice if you could use the same material to tint the armor, although it is hard to notice it is nice for people who want to use the default armor style slightly customized, for example the netherite on netherite trims looks like battle damage (You can get this currently with a bug (Though you don't need to fix the bug if you add this feature!))

    Diamonds are way to expensive to copy templates, I think amethyst would be better since it doesn’t have many uses and it makes about as much sense as diamonds

    One suggestion before I get into some critiques and feedback.

    Please make pink and brown available colors in some way. I know there aren't many items to choose from here that fit the aesthetic of using some sort of metal/gemstone/mineral on a Smithing Table that also match these colors, but these are some really nice colors. Maybe use Brick and Nether Brick for pink and brown respectively. I just want to make my Netherite Armor have a pink trim without making all my friends download a resource pack, and brown would bring the total colors from 11 to 12 making it a nice even number.

    As for the critiques,

    • The cost of 7 Diamonds should be reduced to 3, removing Diamonds from the corners of the recipe. Or, rather, keep 7 Diamonds in the recipe for the Netherite Armor upgrade template, while making the aesthetic templates take 3 Diamonds (or better yet, 7 of a cheaper resource like Iron/Gold). They are supposed to be rare, but spending dozens of Diamonds to make ONE set of armor look nicer is a little much, especially when you consider the possibilities of large groups of people making uniform sets of armor with the same patterns on each.

    I guess that's my only critique. Some additional feedback,

    • Searching the world for templates definitely feels adventurous, it brings more incentive to not just plop a house down somewhere and never leave.
    • The new Smithing Table UI is more intuitive than I expected it to be.
    • The designs look pretty nice. Shouldn't require many changes in that regard.

    Ok, the Armor Trim are a beautiful addition. I can now walk by my cluttered cow pen in style.

    I know it may be asking for to much and I know some people have already brought it up but,..... why not do the same with more. Add even more ways to express yourself outside of your armor.

    Tools: Sure there may only be 3-4 possible Trims to approach them with but I think their addition wouldn't be bad. You could have 1 Trim for the following parts of each tool. Grip/Handle, Eye/Guard, Head/Blade. Maybe even an additional 1 specifically for the sword Pommel. This would also add a way for players to distinguish their enchanted tools by giving them different style/colors of trims without needing to mouse over them to check their enchantments.

    Shields: Shield Trims would also be nice and also at the same time fix Banner Patterns breaking on shields. I could see a good couple of ways to approach Trims on shields I think Shield Trims could have variants that only effect the outer area of a shield and ones that have the same effect on the outer area, but also overlaps over the Banner pattern. This allows for another layer of expressing yourself with the already infinite amount on shields.

    Horse Armor: I mean, if you are gonna look good your horse has to as well. And this could use the existing Armor Trims that were just added in the snapshot for its patterns.

    I think instead of a copying system, it would better to make the templates non-consumable but use some sort of "charge" system. Instead of cloning in the crafting table, it would increase the amount of uses a template has before it must be recharged. This will prevent players from accidentally consuming them when they first discover the templates and losing them permanently, and it will give more value to the template itself, similar to how, like another comment mentioned, a music disc.

    Shift-Right clicking armor stands should swap your whole attire with the armor stand.
    With so many reasons to have multiple sets of armor (elytra, gold in the nether, conflicting enchantments) this would make such an amazing quality of life feature to pair with the new trims.

    Armor trims are allready challenging enough to get, they shouldnt be consumeable, and if they are they should not require diamonds an unrenewable resource, while they look pretty i feel like the consumeable part will make players only use them in creative or very late game, also the netherite upgrade should NOT have been changef, netherite was fine where it was it allready required alot of grinding for not much of an armor upgrade and just really a tools upgrade, netherite being far more expensive now feels unrewarding, you finally grinded for all the netherite for ingots just to have to grind for extra diamonds/more upgrade things.

    As some mentioned earlier, PLEASE make it possible to use glow ink for these templates so that they glow in the dark, it would be JUST CRAZY

    I think armor trims should give very small boosts given how expensive they are.
    Iron, diamond and netherite trims should give some defensive boost to any armor. People say this will prompt users to choose the best combination, but people already choose the best armor. This boost however will make low tier armors like gold and chainmail more viable.

    Golden trims shouldnt give any defensive boost, but should help with piglins.

    As to the other materials, they could have boosts not relating to defense, like extra bubbles with lapiz or extra luck with emerald.
    These changes could also be perfect for the future combat update.

    Diamonds for duplicating templates is OK, do not change the recipe, it would add at least some use for diamonds for lategame players, because now diamonds are basically useless even compared to gold and iron once you’ve get the whole gear and mending villager…
    Minecraft has already became much less challenging in terms of resources accessibility, me personally have STACKS of diamond blocks in my world, I even started to just ignore them when exploring caves, it should definitely NOT be like that.

    Moreover, since it just a cosmetic add, it is reasonable for this receipt to be such expensive, it adds some note of prestige. Beside that, some of these templates are extremely hard to get, they can be found in places where you would only go lategame, and very likely to have tons of unused diamonds for which you can fing another use with this update!

    As of now, I personally think the current duplicating system is way too expensive for something purely aesthetic as “Armor’s trims” , making the cost 3 diamonds instead of 7 should balance things a little more. As of the Netherite Upgrade, the cost seems balanced enough as it’s something centered around progression(although i’d prefer the cost to be 5 diamonds instead of 7, because sometimes, upgrading your diamond gear to netherite seems such an extra thing and not really that necessary, and i’m afraid with this change it’ll make it a little too grindy to progress and consequently, make players take even longer to even think about upgrading their current diamond gear).

    But overall, it’s a very welcome change, and I really enjoy it, just some fixes and it should be almost perfect.

    I think it would be better if smithing templates could not be duplicated and not disappear when used. 7 diamonds for a recipe is too high for singleplayer and too low for multiplayer.
    and, diamonds do not seem to be related to smithing templates and quality of recipes is not good.

    I think it should go one step farther, we should be able to coat a armor with a material, like coat a piece of netherite armor with an emerald to make emerald armor. That and the templates should be like banner patterns and not be consumed. Also Eltras should be included in trimming. We should also be able to combine different patterns and materials to make more combinations, kinda like banners can. It’d open the door to something truly amazing.

    Add possibility to use ECHO SHARDS for armor trimming, along with glow ink feature that all want, it it would become a great combination. Also it would add more use for echo shards themselves

    Please, add a new template called a Reflective/Glowing Template to make the trims pop like Glowing text during night or in darkness.

    In my opinion, templates should not be consumed on use. They should work as Banner Patterns do. They're way too expensive right now, and people won't be customizing armor as much due to that. Especially on servers, which is the main attraction (why would you customize armor in single player where nobody will see it?).

    I really love these Armour Trims! I think it will be really rewarding to collect all of them.

    I quite like the usage of diamonds to copy these, but I think the current recipe is a little too expensive. Collecting blocks that match the template material is nice, so I think it should be a larger part of the recipe.

    My suggestion is that the recipe should be a smithing template, 4 material blocks and 4 diamonds.
    This would solve the issue of price and I think looks like it would logically duplicate a template.

     * | D | *
    ---+---+---
     D | T | D
    ---+---+---
     * | D | *

    * = Material Block
    D = Diamond
    T = Template

    Okay, two things. I understand making them exclusive to generated structures, but the rates are a bit low. Personally, I think it should be raised to 7 or 8% approximately. Secondly, maybe make it so certain villagers can sell them? Maybe an armorer, toolsmith or wandering trader.

    I’ll combine most of them into one
    Horse armor trims + netherite horse armor
    Gold trim protects against piglins
    Trims on shields and elytra
    copper trims oxidize

    Also, coal trims, chain trims.
    Weapon/Tool trims.
    Arrow trims, which add different mineral tips, and affect how the arrows shoot and the damage they do/

    Black armor trims shouldn't cost a full Netherite ingot. If they're going to keep with the theme of mining resources (Like Amethyst, Copper, etc) then the cost to trim your armor black should be Coal. Going entirely by trimming costs, the value of a Netherite Ingot is the same as a single bit of Redstone Dust, which doesn't incentivize players to express themselves if they have to go to that length to achieve it, especially for a purely cosmetic upgrade.

    Armor trims are looking awesome!
    I have some suggestions:
    1. Ability to apply glow squid ink to armor trims, giving a glowing effect similar to an Enderman's eyes
    2. A "Default" Trim that can reset an armor's trim
    3. A increased chance to find trims in Woodland Mansions. Woodland Mansions are already extremely rare, so it would be quite frustrating to not find a trim in one.

    Hi I just wanted to give my feedback! I hope this helps!

    1. The rates of some smithing templates (ST) are too low in my opinion. I had a hard time getting the Ribs, Wild, And Vex smithing templates. And the design of the Coastal ST lead me to believe it was found in buried treasure.

    2. I had a lot of fun trying to search for where all the ST’s could be found!

    3. I think 7 diamonds is a reasonable requirement for duplication.

    4. The interface of the smithing table for applying armor trims was unintuitive to me. Firstly, the fact you have to put in a ST first before any material or armor piece felt weird to me. And secondly, I had difficulty discovering what materials could be used for armor trims. The cycling outline textures lead me to believe that Echo Shards, and Glowstone Dust were applicable. And thirdly, it took me a while to realize you could apply Netherite to armor. I was using Netherite armor as my test armor and thought that since I couldn’t apply Netherite to my current armor, it must not be a material then.

    5. To me most of the armor trims are very similar visually, some more variation in design would be nice.

    6. It can be overwhelming to decide what armor trim is your favorite at times. Albeit, obtaining access to them all at once doesn’t help.

    Sorry this is so long, I just wanted to give a detailed report so that this wonderful feature is the best it can be!

    The UI doesn't need to outright tell you what item goes where, seeing as it's already represented visually through silhouettes of the items. The smithing templates also literally have the word "smithing" in them, so it's intuitive to put them in the "smithing" table without the UI telling you directly. The armour stand maybe should be shown from the front, like the banner in a loom. This would make it fit in better with the 2D UI and wouldn't look as weird.
