If there has to be a dye base, it could be crafted with 2 wooden slabs to give 4 dye bases. Then the dyes can be put on top of the dye bases and placed into the world.

I think the copper golems should only freeze once their eyes go unlit. Copper golem eyes can go unlit if the copper golem itself gets powered by redstone.
