Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

    Essentially a like any poison, but it takes a delayed effect, since it begins the suffocation count before the damage count, so an unwitting enemy has a chance to not notice, right away.

    what if it could change the appearance of the bubbles as you lose them just like how poison or withering changes the appearance of hearts, and hunger makes the hunger bar look green.
    suffocation effect would make the bubbles like filled in or blacked out to show that you can't breathe.

    also as an effect it could be inflicted by a mob like a drown skeleton variant underwater.

    not just when inside blocks like quicksand.

    or it could be an alternative effect from the pufferfish which would actually make eating a puffer fish make more sense. 

    eating a puffer fish gives you a lot of debuffs but it used to make a water breathing potions so maybe a suffocation potion could be made with just a puffer fish and in order to make a water breathing potion you need to invert a suffocation potion with a fermented spider eye.
