Let's face it, the current night sky in minecraft is boring and hasn't change since it was implemented. I'd love to add something to look at with the spyglass! Better constellations, other planets, celestial events!
The Astronomy Chart is crafted by surrounding a spyglass with paper, and it works a lot like a map but for the night sky. (this would provide a new use for copper and amethyst, 2 resources that desperately need it.)
If you left click while holding an astronomy chart in your offhand, anything you're looking at in the night sky through a spyglass will be recorded in the chart. Like a map they work on a chunk based grid and can be displayed with item frames.
A new "Astronomer Villager" will sell you a placeable Telescope, but not for emeralds. They only trade the telescope for charts of specific celestial bodies. For example they may ask for a chart of a "creeper constellation" or a "shooting star". This requires the player to actually engage and learn from astronomy in order to progress.
The Telescope allows you to see an entirely different night sky that can't be seen with the naked eye, replacing the small pixel textures with something much more detailed.
Unlike the spyglass, the telescope is a block with a fixed angle. You're able to adjust the angle by interacting with the telescope UI
