Two blocks that you can use to automatically merge and split blocks that go together in greater quantities. For example:
Run 9 Iron Ingots into the Compressor block and it will spit out an Iron Block.
Run that Iron Block into the Decompressor block and you get back your 9 Iron Ingots automatically.
However, this should only work with things such as Iron, Copper, Gold, Emeralds, Lapis, Diamonds, Ice, Bone, Bonemeal, etc. Items where you put all of the same item together and get a single block back. Of course, this should only work with pre-existing recipes. So while you could decompress an Iron Block back down to ingots, this would not be the case for say Compressed Ice. I would like to be able to use these blocks with Hoppers to control their input and output.
It should NOT for example be a method to automatically craft Redstone Repeaters or pumping out Iron Pickaxes, for example. Just a utility that is handy for storage, transport, etc.
I think this would be a nice QoL addition as compressing and decompressing items is a bit of busywork that Minecraft could do without and I think this would be a nice solution to that.
As a crafting recipe I suggest the following for the Compressor:
Crafting Table * Smithing Table * Crafting Table
Piston * [EMPTY] * Piston
Redstone Repeater * Lever * Redstone Repeater
For the Decompressor I would use the same recipe but replace the Pistons with Sticky Pistons and the Crafting Tables with Grindstones.
