In combat, people tend to use the strongest set possible (in this case Netherite), without any drawbacks, however, it would be nice if there was some use to weaker sets, like leather and chainmail; a system of weight would make them useful
Armor Weights
Different armor pieces and materials would add different weights
The weight would be calculated as "Piece Weight" * "Material Weight"
The weights of the armor piecese would be:
- Helmet: 1
- Chestplate: 3
- Leggings and Boots: 2
The material weights would be:
- Leather: 0
- Chaimail: 0.5
- Iron 1
- Gold and Diamond 1.5
- Netherite: 2
- Turtle Shell: 0
- Elytra: 0
Weight mechanics
Weight would affect the player's hunger, swimming, sinking and falling speed, fall damage and the effects of potions of Speed and Slowness
Weight and Fall Damage and Speed
For every 2 points of Weight, and extra 1 damage would be added to the fall damage, and the player would fall 1 block faster
Weight and Hunger
For every 2 point of Weight, the hunger would deplete 5% faster
Weight and Swimming and Sinking
For every 4 points of weight, the player would swim 10% slower and would sink 4 blocks faster in water and lava; if the weight is over 10 points, the player won't be able to swim, and would sink to the bottom, and would walk and jump like they were on land
Weight and Potions
The speed buff from a Potion of Speed would be decrease by 1% per weight point
The speed debuff from a Potion of Slowness would be increased by 1.5% per weight point
